Did some exploratory surgery today, and there's definitely scope to fit a fold out sat nav, but it means fabricating a new panel set further forwards to replace the one the din socket currently resides in.

Will be a bit of a pain to make though, anyone know a metalwork place that can fabricate this kind of thing?

As an aside, don't recommend anyone casually takes that area apart, it took me ages to get it back together as lots of alignment issues with screws and dodgey holes etc! Not my idea of fun...

Hmm mine was missing the odd clip, and had multiple holes everywhere where people had had trouble initially. Made it a complete pita.

Still if you fancy fabricating and fitting up a new one for me I'll buy you a pint

Tip - go to halfords and get somee more of the little slid on clip things that you screw into, if you have them all it makes it *much* easier, the difficult one is the far left one IME.

Ah good to know I can get them at halfords. Yeah far left is tricker as it has about 4 possible holes it seems, and only one of them is right, otherwise the panel doesn't sit flush with the carpeted side.

I had a sticky out bit on my S4. It came out from the dash about 50mm. Will try and dig out some pics. I know there was a 'fitting kit' that adapted the 1 DIN. These guys fitted it...

Did it look ok in your opinion? I'm guessing its not so bad in an Audi because its all covered by the hatched recess?

Might look a bit cack in the noble?

Why not consider SmartNav? No need for a screen then. Ok, you can't watch DVD's, but you do get navigation coupled with live traffic information.

An added bonus is Safe Speed (fixed camera alert) and Trackstar Plus as part of the package.

It looked crap to be honest!! I was never anything other than disappointed. I think it would look better in the Noble as the ICE is a kind of tucked away after-thought. In the audi it was centre stage and obvious !. I have gone with tomtom on a PDA for nav in my Noble - also means I can take it to & from my other car...& the mrs. car etc. etc !! If you look around enough maybe you can find a fold out screen that hinges differently. Only screens elbowing from the bottom would be a problem?

Smartnav doesn't work in Europe and its awful at doing reroutes apparently.

Think I've worked out how to get a screen in. Pay these people lots :

Just need to work out whether I can face what they'd charge. They seem pretty good as they did a Murcielago in a naff car audio mag this month.

Sure, SmartNav doesn't work in Europe, but they have plans to add Europe to their database. And because it works from a central server the user won't have to do anything to implement this.

Additionally, because the system is connected to the TrafficMaster Live traffic reporting system, the route given will be the fastest route based on the traffic along your route.

The other advantage is that there is never any need to update the DVD/CD-ROM as there is with the built in systems. Which is an advantage as many of the DVD/CDs are out of data within 6 months.

SmartNav has also won loads of awards..... see AutoExpress.

Ok.... I am now going of for a sales job at SmartNav.
