I know this has been done to death but just to confirm am I okay with the push fit connections or do I need to be going for AN fittings? smile

a simple solution is to feed the 044 with the pressure from your old pump - it is designed to work this way

use the old wiring to switch a relay - you can take the live feed from the starter motor wires

remember to get rid of the old feed pipe - it folds flat and restricts flow

do you still get the 'buzzing' fitting it this way ?

Can you tell if this is an old feed pipe? I am pretty sure it was collapsing on me when things were hot a few days ago.

Further to Dave's post above, what have people used to replace the old feed pipe?

Yes that looks like the original fuel piping

There is a bend from the tank. Over time the pipe collapses and folds flat

I suggest you replace with a metal bend that cant fold flat. I used fittings from a hydraulic supplier. A plumber may stock what you need

Thanks, that re-assures me. There's notable flattening at the point illustrated where it is squeezed round behind the upright. I have some 15mm copper tube and was thinking of inserting a suitable bend in there. Do I need to do the same thing on the other end where it presumably exits the tank or will giving it a bit of slack be enough?

Guys

Can anyone tell me what size connectors I need for the 044 both inlet and outlet? smile

Why are you wanting to fit an 044 pump & what power are you running ?

Just thought it was the general pump upgrade that people did before a remap etc??

Ross, there is this huge misunderstanding on here concering pumps & upgrading a pump for the sake of it is wrong.
The standard 3/3R pump is fine for standard power & the M400 pump is fine for upto 450bhp, you only need to consider an 044 if you are going above that & oversizing the pump just causes other issues.
Money is best spent in replacing the rubbish fuel pipe from the tank to the filter & onto the pump with a 5/8 / 16mm id good quality fuel hose keeping it as low as possible & no sharp bends, or use fittings for the 180o outlet from the tank & 180o from the filter to the pump.
Also increase the bore size of your filter connections as if you look at the standard it reduces from a 16mm pipe to approx 8mm id connections !!! Other than that just ensure the return connection on the fuel tank from the regulator isn't restricted & fit a new element in the filter.

Most noisy pumps are due to fuel starvation due to these restrictions to flow on the suction side & using your existing pump to feed a 044 is just nonesense, works well as a fuel heater though wink

If you want to fit a new pump for piece of mind great just don't oversize it, other than that what ever you change a run on the rollers is a good idea just to confirm the fueling thumbup

there is discussion here about the 044 from some time ago

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=112...

basically the pump may be too big for your application - but you will be future proofed for future modifications

if you feed it from your stock pump you will have headroom for approx 730 hp

drilling the return to the tank will make the pump a bit quieter at idle ( max load on the pump is at idle )

As Kev has said above you can't just slap an 044 on and expect it to work... It will struggle to suck fuel from the tank and get noisy and less efficient.
Replace the rubbish pipe shown above from the tank to the filter and upgrade wiring as both of these stop a stock pump delivering its full potential and would need to resolved before a larger pump is fitted anyhow.

Cheers for the info guys! So is the 3R pump good for 390 to 400bhp? That's the power figure im looking at smile
