Was enjoying a wee jaunt round Knockhill tonight along with 3 other Nobles, Well 2 plus Hollowpockets rocket powered one with the flaming exhausts!!, when the big ends gave up. Now as if this wasn't bad enough I asked for the recovery truck to be a low loader type. Guess what turned up yep a normal truck. Now I was parked facing up a hill say 15degs and he then added about 35degs with his tail. As he jolted the car up the north face of Everest the towing eye gave up and the car rolled off the truck and into a parked Subaru!! So engine rebuild plus damaged back corner and knackered handbrake. Oh did I mention I had asked the guy if he wanted me to go in the car whilst he winched it? apparently I didn't need too! All in all, not happy!!!

Hi Gordon, was nice to meet you last night but what a sickener about your car! It was running so well first couple of sessions too! Thankfully the accident damage was minor as could have been a lot lot worse given the incline of the trailer and car park! Hope you manage to get it fixed OK!

bugger

do you think you had oil starvation on track ? do you have a track day sump ?

how will the cars get repaired - is it your insurance or the tow truck that needs to pay out ?

i have removed my towing eyes - so they cant be used like this

probably easier to add a bit of strap to the front on a track day

i hope you get it sorted out with not too much trouble

(time for some engine mods ?)

Or, if possible, turn the eye around 90 degrees so the force is horizontal and not vertical.

I have a track day sump and oil level was between lo and high when I started. No visible oil leaks. Car cut out earlier and light went on so came off track put a litre in left it running no lights and everything sounded ok. 2 laps later knackered just one of those things.

I have complained to green flag about the lift, in my eyes it is the operators responsibility plus he was jerking it up the ramp which will of caused the eye to fail along with the stress required to pull at such an angle. I've told them I expect them to cover it.

Cars going to garage today to get the engine out so it can be built on a bench, once it's opened I'll see what needs done and what can be uprated but in all honesty it's plenty quick for use as it is, DavieM12 who's got 375bhp said I was pulling away from him on the straights!!!

Hey Gordon, gutted for you after all that last night, I know exactly how you feel, same thing happened to me at the nurburgring last year when my bearings went.

It must have just been starved of oil on the track and when we topped it up it was too late.

Hopefully not too expensive to get her going again.

Sorry to here that.

If pistons/rods and bores are ok then upgraded bearings and balanced crank would be the minimum I would do. Obviously you could go for new pistons, head flowing, valve springs and ARP head bolts so the engine is strong.

It might be a good idea at this point to get gearbox strengthened and a stronger clutch all for longevity.

Oh and don't forget to change clutch slave bearing thingy.

Hi Gordon, so sorry to hear about the car :-( I've got my fingers crossed you'll have her back on the road soon.

Cheers

Bad news Gordon. Hopefully it won't be long till the cars back out. Hopefully the recovery company do the right thing also and pay for the repairs.

i strongly recommend anyone to add slick 50 or similar to the engine oil

if you momentarily loose oil pressure it will save the engine

I'm afraid the poor driver has to pay for the damage so despite his incompetence I'm not going rip the p#$$ out the poor guy.
