You mean the 17th?

Would be very interested to see what a Noble can do for the standing 1/4, I said that I would see some friends on Sunday, but I might try to wriggle out of that if I can.....

Just as a benchmark, we achieved 12.3 secs with a 115mph term. when we figured a stock GTO-3R with Autocar. I reckon you should be able to slice a second off this with a well run-in M400.

Not sure im the best person to advise on how to lauch a Noble, my experience thus far is a test drive of a 2.5.

Did a fair bit of drag racing in my modified MR2 Turbo though, the tricky thing with turbo cars is finding the point where you launch with enough RPM to spool the turbo's and don't just bog down waiting for them to spin up, yet not too many RPM so that you sit there in a cloud of tyre smoke. (A small amount of wheel spin is fine though)

General things to consider, try to get the right hand side, that is the side they glue most often for serious dragsters, thus you will get better traction. It's all about you and the clock, so you can forget the other guy and don't worry about reaction times, for RWYB stuff, it means nothing to your time. Just make sure your calm, relaxed and launch well. Once your running its all down to gear changes, keep em smooth and quick.

If you are on the right hand side of the track it is polite to let the other car turn off first at the end, rather than pulling across in front of him, as the exit at the end is on the left.

If your anything like me though, once your near to staging, the adrenaline kicks in, and even though your not racing the guy next to you, you kinda want to win regardless and the whole launch process goes by in a blur.

I have no idea about the strength of the transmission of a Noble, so you might want to take it easy to begin with, all to easy to fry the clutch or mash the gearbox to tiny pieces.

Also, get there early if your running as it can get quite busy.

Above all it's a cheap and fun day out, so have fun.

I have watched the 1200bhp Sumo Skyline run a few times, that is a very imrpessive beast, just leaves black lines down the strip as it launches

..that'll guarantee you you're own smoke-cloud and a 20-sec qtr. Try 3300-3400 and let the clutch out briskly, but don't sidestep it.

I've heard that 5000rpm and sliding your foot off the clutch so it pings up is the way to go.(Never done it myself, mind) Martin.

That kind of shock to the transmission is asking for trouble. Particularly if your on the glued side as the tyres will grip nicely putting more than the usual strain on everything else!

Have fun and if you don't beat 16.9 then my old Focus can beat ya! (I think dakkon ran a 12.9 in his MR2?...)

Yep, went along with some guys from the alfa GTV owners club ( I have a 3.0 v6 gtv ) great fun, very hard getting the power down from start, need some sticky tyres!! Best time was 12.9 terminal speed 109, not bad and with a head wind, mate brought his 04 reg M3 with Launch control - best he did was 13.9 which I though was pretty good!! My first run was 14.1!! far too much wheel spin!! But the Noble was slow compared to the GPX1300 with nos- 8.5 sec terminal 178mph !!!
But a good cheap (£25) day out.

Yeah, its definately a cheap, fun day out, I have a friend who is BMW mad and owns an M3, down the pub he raves about how amazing they are, so fast etc etc, got to be honest, I have never ever seen an M3 post a decent time on a drag strip, so what you say comes as no suprise.

12.9 is pretty good, any car that can run the standing quarter in under 13secs is pretty rapid.

If you likes the GPX1300, you should see the proper drag bikes, they wear kevlar vests, just in case the engine lets go and throws a piston, nutters
