Took the car out for a day trip with my 4 year old up to Haynes Motor Museum with some friends. The a/c is not working so had the windows open, the heat that was getting sucked in from the discharged air from the rad was horrendous. You can feel the difference in air between the bottom of the wind screen and the top, top being alot cooler than the bottom. Others must have noticed this, especially when the fans cut in, but is there anything that can be done to avoid the hot air being sucked in other than getting my a/c working correctly and keeping the windows closed??? I have bypassed my heater matrix to insure the air coming through the vents is not bing heated by the matrix due to the leakey shutoff valve, but I do like to drive with the window open and a/c off..........

Just chipping in further info in case someone googles this in future;

I had warm air coming thru my vents and assumed it was a slightly stuck heater valve.
Couldn't actually locate the valve but found instead that 2 of the air intake hoses had fallen off the blower housing.

So, it's worth a check. Don't forget that if it's had the tunnel cooling mod then a couple of the inlets should be blocked off.

Q for anyone- is the heater valve accessible under the vented panel in the floor?

Thanks
Andy

Hi Paul , I found fitting the carbon aerofoil on the bonnet front edge helped massively with the hot air flow from the rad .

Thought this was what it was for, is this something you have made Simon or did you buy it ready made??

The change that has the biggest effect in stopping the hot air attach itself to the side of the car is to open up the rear of the front wings/wheel arches.

Anyone got a photo? Does it really make a difference.

I would like to open the windows and not get hot air blown in!

Sorry I am a bit dim ... what am I looking at exactly?

This is not what Tuxman is talking about - with an aerofoil?

It is what Adrian is talking about -opening up the front arches to help airflow.

Hi Hoyin , it's the carbon strip along the front edge of the rad outlet on the front clip .

Simon, from the wind tunnel results the Gurney above the radiator shouldn't do that, but if in the real world it does, it must dump the hot air straight into the intercooler.

The other thing you may be interested in, with it fitted you get 8% less down force at the back. it was designed to increase front down force in the wet.

Hi,

I've seen the wind tunnel results for a number of aerodynamic modifications for drag and downforce, is there one aimed at vehicle cooling? I think i've seen it mentioned, but have not been able to find any articles in searches.

Thanks

Matt
