Been out for a drive in the nob tonight and after a bit of fun though some twisty roads all of a sudden the temp shot to max and it ran rough and cut out , would not re start straight away . Moved the car out the way , lifted the rear clam and waited 30 mins checked water levels all ok , oil levels all ok nothing had leaked out the car , so I started it back up and now seems to run fine ?? Really strange any one had anything like this ?

it does sound like the ecu went in to safe mode because possibly the temps got too high

I did wonder if the MBE ecu had such a function , just not sure why it's done it , not sure if the water pumps on its way out ? Are they an issue on the 2.5 engine ?

Cheers

On the 3l the mbe controls the temperature gauge and reads 90 at all times when warm and only changes when it seriously overheats 110 or something similar... This means all seems fine then suddenly the temp shoots off the gauge.

I have it in my mind that the 2.5 isn't the same as the 3l and has a separate sensor for the gauge but they may have wired the mbe in the same as 3l when it was upgraded.... If this is the case then you have an issue with the rad or pump effecting the cooling.

I had this once, turned out to be leaves blocking the front grille!

Could it be a stuck thermostat. I believe the radiator fan on a 2.5 is controlled by a switch need the rad and that old obviously not come on.
