Hi all, i have removed my heater box as the vents in the car don't really blow very well at all. i was told years ago by a noble dealer that the fins have prob all snapped off the fan and it would cost about £1000 to replace (hence why i never got it fixed) anyway took ages to get the box off today and had to remove both seats to get at the bolts under the dash, and looking at it - there is nothing wrong with the fan its self. But there is something that looks like a resistor, that looks a bit fooked.
Can anyone tell me where i can get a replacement?
Cheers
Steve

Sounds like fun! I've been putting off doing this job as my fan doesn't work on speed one, I've heard that you can replace the fan with an escort motor that kicks out more air.

You get to the fan assembly through the front of the car. I cut my box open and removed the fan assembly. Was going to put the escort van one in but it was bigger and didn't fit. I found that it was just my motor bushes that had gone so just replaced them and sorted it.

I also upgraded the resistor pack. The one u are looking at does look a mess but that's what it looks like.

For the life of me though, I can't remember where I got the upgraded resistor pack from. Think it was south west lotus. It didn't fit back in the same place but there is plenty of room to mount it.

I improved mine by about 50% by taking all the under dash hoses off and routing them properly, the one that went to the driver side demister was actually flat, no wonder it never worked.

As Simon said, mine gets ice cold but there's just not enough air being blown out so ill take a look at all the hoses and see if I can improve the flow. I don't really want to go to all the hassle of changing the motor if I don't have to.

Simon, the Escort van blower is bigger and better but the box the unit goes in would need to be modified

Hi Bondy, did you just cut your box open to get the fan out or cut rather than remove from the car? One of the coils is broken on the resistor so def needs changing.

If I was going to change the fan I would go for something more modern and make it fit, the fan on my sons mk3 Clio is unbelievably powerfull

All my hoses are fine and like you I still feel its not got enough chuff... Although it still manages to cope with 40deg heat in traffic and keep cabin cool.

I cut the box open with a view to when it went back together I was going to cover the join in mastic (Grant Style) but never got round to it.

The resistor pack can be changed without cutting the box though as it has access plate from the top.

This info is on the 2.5, can't be sure on a 3L car.

The bottom edge shown here I think was the only cut needed.

This was the escort van Fan and the resistor pack that I used.

Hmmmm, i wonder

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-5-SERIES-E39-HEATER-...

or would two of these fit?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-TRANSPORTER-T25-GOLF-...

this would be a good contender as well

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-206-98-03-Heater...

we need to get the dimensions of the fan unit fitted and the size of the box it sits in

The first and last selection of these is just the motor, it needs the shroud. I guess it gives it more pull.

The second option is a complete assembly and you maybe able to secure one to each inlet?
