Just wondering if anyone has had a go in an Audi R8 4.2 and how comparable in terms of acceleration they are in relation to a standard Noble?

I have been considering a change, but don't really know anything about them as there are not many of them here in Northern Ireland.

I would have to part with my noble (2.5) and also the Cayman S to go down to one motor.
Any thoughts/ advice?
Thanks
Steve

I found the noble to accelerate harder than the r8 v8 and more fun to drive.
However I'm running 400bhp.
The v10 however is a different beast and well worth the extra money IMO.
This is what I hope to get Nxt year.

Agreed yes - or, more aligned with the OP's posting, a Pork Turbo to a Noble.

I was thinking its more of an Upgrade on the Cayman (more in the same mold), but it is worth it at the expense of the noble.
Thanks

As has been said, they are both very different cars however I can compare fairly well here as I've got a B7 RS4 with the same V8 4.2 engine and an M400 (remapped to 476). The Noble is from a different planet in acceleration terms to the Audi V8, and I also know from experience of a friends R8 that they are only a little faster than a standard RS4.
Incidentally, the same friend sold his R8 V8 to buy an R8 V10 and the Noble was still the faster accelerating car. He's now got the R8 V10 'plus' though with a few more horses and the awesome s-tronic gearbox so he might have an edge on me now!

Just don't buy an auto. A friend had a V10 spider and the box spoilt the experience for me completely. When Audi sold it for him they lent him the V10 plus for a weekend and although I didn't drive it, the box had changed everything about the car. It's 458 quick and the soundtrack is just glorious.
I know that's of little use if you're looking at V8s though, sorry! Any reason why you've not considered an early Gallardo?

Prob looking one in and around the 45K mark. Early V8's seems the only option at this sorta price. My kinda feeling at the moment is if I could get a V10 one it would be a done deal (its way outa price range though), but i am struggling to justify getting rid of both the Noble and the CaymanS for a V8.

Oh and yes - Manual would be the only option for me. Wouldnt go down the old auto gear box route.

Please share how you get on. I'm thinking of selling my 3R and my SL55 for either a Gallardo or R8 V10 but I want a spider of either.

Great if you could have both but my suggestion would be to keep the Noble and get the V10 RS6 Avant so you have a powerfull tourer to have fun in on those damp trips. With a 1k remap they are good for 700bhp or a C63AMG

Only prob is that these are in the mid to high twenties.

I have driven a R8 V8 around bruntingthorpe , stunning car , stunning looking , great build quality and very good performance , I loved it the sound was awesome too , is it as quick as a noble ...no , does it have the drama of a Noble ...no but nor will it breakdown and things on it will stop working .
When my knees finally go and I want something a bit more relaxed to drive there will be one in the garage .

Thanks for all the info guys. I am thinking maybe wait a year or two, and get the V10. Hopefully by that stage I can stretch a little further and the prices will come closer to 50k.

Agreed. The two cars are built for different purposes, different power delivery, different everything. Its not really possible to compare them in my view.

A man of good taste.

I have an RS4 avant. And my noble is 360 bhp with 400 torques.
That's what you notice. The RS4 V8 is awesome but reminds me of my P1 Impreza. The turbo lag is similar to the lack of torque and low down grunt. Noble is a different league and fairly immediate pace at most speeds. R8 V8 must be similar, and although bullet proof, based on my RS4 I can't understand how anything with that engine is classified as a supercar!

I still absolutely love my family wagon though, don't get me wrong.

when i get old I want a bentley turbo

I quite like the idea of a Aventador - not sure i could drive one every day

The GTR is supposed to be fairly comfy and fast !

I was recently taken out in a stage two GTR (600bhp). I was shocked how fast it was.

Gadge's, I thought you had clearance to get a GTR as well as the Noble ages ago. Did you never get one?
