coil over spark

easily done - the 2.5 runs this way
you will end up with wasted spark - but no problem
Not saying I understand this but are u sure?you will end up with wasted spark - but no problem
If the MBE is firing sequentially in its current set up then why can't it from the coil pack as it still has 6 coils.
My 2.5 runs sequentially?

My 2.5 runs sequentially?
so it is 3 coils not 6
it runs wasted spark - not really a problem
however why would you want to do it if you have 6 working coils ? is there a coil gone down ?

Why would you want to do that??
Because its supposed to be a much more reliable set up! Apparently coil over spark was only introduced because of emission laws. And if i convert it i will free up loads of outputs in my ECU.2.5bluenob said:

By emission laws do you mean EMC/RFI? otherwise that statement make little sense.Gadgeroonie said:
the 2.5 has 6 ht leads - but if you look carefully there are 2 leads per coil
so it is 3 coils not 6

So are you saying that although I'm running fully sequential I'm actually still firing as semi sequential?so it is 3 coils not 6
it runs wasted spark - not really a problem
however why would you want to do it if you have 6 working coils ? is there a coil gone down ?

Well, it's a more simple setup because there is only one coil, but coil on plug does have some inherent performance advantages as each coil has a longer dwell time.I would have thought that going to a single coil setup would be a backwards step?
Probably not enough to make a difference on a standard car though I guess.

Not knowing why you want all the extra outputs but wouldn't be better to look at a different ECU ?
Kevin i just want to have All the extra sensors etc that i can possible have to try to make my car safe!I thought the omex 710 is a good ecu but i dont know. Is the omex capable of running extra sensors and limp modes ect?
Also ive had a new wiring loom made for the omex so i spose i dont really want to bin it! although im open to suggestions and advise?
Cheers

Omex 710 is a great ECU, very flexible and bucketfuls of I/O, who i are going to get to map itI thought the omex 710 is a good ecu but i dont know. Is the omex capable of running extra sensors and limp modes ect?

Hi Steve, the Omex as Adrain says has lots of I/O so should easily be able to do what you want to do & leave the coils as they are which works really well. The 710 also has some logging all be it limited but is a step up from the MBE.I thought the omex 710 is a good ecu but i dont know. Is the omex capable of running extra sensors and limp modes ect?

Trevor can map an Omex & Steve at T&R knows them well, otherwise Darren at Noble Motorsport has a lot of experience using the 710 on Nobles & he would be my preferred.

your ignition is wasted spark

i was going to get trevor to map it as he has mapped my car a couple times before on this ecu, all be it on a 2.5 though.Edited by Adrian W on Saturday 12th October 09:58

Ok thanks Kevin. im going to use trevor. i have used noble motor sport as they fitted the ecu and mapped it for me about five years ago. But trevor is not that far for me to travel and knows his stuff! Also i think track n roads rollers seem to tally up with other rollers bhp figures.Trevor can map an Omex & Steve at T&R knows them well, otherwise Darren at Noble Motorsport has a lot of experience using the 710 on Nobles & he would be my preferred.

Steve Greenald at Track and Road is very good with Omex and Gems Steve
