This is a slightly different approach.

100bhp from a 2.4 wonder what the gearbox is and how strong it might be

My thoughts exactly. Possibly the S2000?? I have heard high praise of the gearboxes in those cars. It's an interesting approach. The Honda Exiges work well. Possibly would be a lighter car also??

it will be a Honda Type R engine and fwd gearbox

they are a neat engine and rev like there is no tomorrow, torque is not something they are known for

it will be fun to drive if you like to rev it to death - but a 3.0 duratec should easily outperform it

would prefer to see a 3.0 v6 in a Honda !

interesting.

I agree, i once owned a civic type r and it did rev like mad, however as someone pointed out it had no torque!!

Assuming the engine revs to 8.5k or there abouts (it's a 2.4 and has a long stroke anyway!) it's still going to make 700 to 800 lbsft of torque at peak (a Norris Designs 2.35 ltr 4g63t as a reference). That's a lot of torque for a FWD box to take, ESP in a mid engined RWD application! I can't see the box lasting with a full power launch. Even the CTR (Civic Type R) guys have to get creative for reliable drag race boxes. Just look at the CPL drag race civic. They uses a full bog gear set in a stock casing.

Your talking power rather than torque.

I doubt the Honda engine at 700bhp will be more reliable than the v6 at same power and it will probably not have as good a power delivery.

The idea for this engine change was to reduce weight to Elise levels for racing wasn't it?

Andy, if they wanted to get the weight down why not use the Ford/Mazda duratec engines? They are lighter than the Honda units and have already been fitted to a noble. Power wise they should be able to make more than enough power for racing. Stock gearbox could also be used I think.
