You have to laugh don't you. The prat from the Telegraph test drives an M400 to review it and he runs out of both road and talent and puts it in a ditch.

Typical. He drives like a ***t, stacks it and then blames the car. Every excuse going except for his own lack of talent. Apparently they came to the conclusion that it was 'the combination of a gradient and the wet surface that had been too much for the M400's Quaife automatic torque-biasing differential - especially as the car lacks traction control.'

Motoring journalists in main-stream magazines never fail to amaze me with their lack of competence. He didn't even notice that it was shod in Corsas which aren't exactly noted for water clearing ability and benefit greatly from some warmth.

I would just like to stress that the guy from the Telegraph magazine is not a motoring journalist: he merely writes a motoring page in a lifestyle magazine - much in the same way that Boris Johnson tests cars for GQ. Reputable motoring hacks, even if they're not Schuey at the wheel, at least know their limits and would show respect to a car with 400bhp per tonne on wet roads.

Perhaps Mr. Lyndon should have a 150bhp limit imposed on him by the Telegraph's insurers, who thankfully paid out for his incompetence...

What's worse than spinning a Noble on the public highway (after all, some very nice people indeed have done that ) is the way in which he then tried to blame the car. He could at least have had the decency to admit that he ran out of talent. I'm afraid that I just laughed out loud at this when I read it yesterday. I'd love to have heard the phone call to his editor and to have heard the explanation.

Tony Dron tested one in the Daily Telegraph 2/10/2004. To quote:-

"It was a funny way to get to know a car. Until last month I had driven Nobles on the Goodwood hillclimb at the Festival of Speed, but nowhere else. All I had to do there was get in and have a go - somewhat daunting in a very powerful, turbocharged, mid-engined machine I did not know. But it turned out to be a good experience. The Noble shot away from the start after spinning its wheels but was immediately confidence-inspiring, making it a pleasure to attack the first corner slightly sideways. Getting back on the power, I forgot the crowds and simply enjoyed driving very fast indeed."

I thought this article was a disgrace and shouldn't have been published, I hope people can see through the journalists lame excuses and won't be put off buying a car from a british company that needs the support of a positive press and not cretins like this guy. I hope no other manufacturers let him near their motor.

...the irony is that I went to great lengths to conceal Neil Lyndon's identity when friends in the motoring press quizzed me about who'd binned our demo car. I was concerned that his reputation may have taken a bashing!

what a joker, anyone with a ounce of brains would respect the cars BHP and weather conditions, hopefully he might of banged his head in the crash and knocked some sense back into him.

I’ll vouch for that, I know Tony as he lives in my neck of the woods and apart from being a very nice bloke with some fascinating stories he’s a phenomenal driver, with access to some gorgeous cars. At the FoS this year he followed the Ferrari 612 up the hill in the M400 and by the time he’d reached Molecomb he’d caught it up and was trying to get past! The chap in the Ferrari had a little rant at Tony when they got to the top of the hill, something to do with him tailgating I think it was but it transpired that it was because Tony in the M400 had decimated what the Ferrari driver had thought been a pretty quick sprint until he looked in the rear view mirror. More like dented pride I think!
