I tried to remove the manual door mirrors today, and I'm need a bit of help.


Does this white nylon disk pull out? I've removed the retaining screw, one turns the other one is wedged in place.
Do I just pull the adjustment cables though and out the way so I can get to the nut, then replace the whole unit with the new one.

From memory, I think there's a screw that holds the white nylon part in the door. To remove this you need to release the cables from the back of the mirror so they come out with the adjuster in your photo. Before removing the cable ends I marked them with different coloured paint so they went back the same way.
OK I've got the old mirrors off.
I found it easer to just cut the cables.
Removed the nut and the mirror.
Now how on earth do I get it back on?
Under the nut is a blue spring, which you need to compress in order to refit the nut, but the size of the mirror unit is not big enough to get a 25mm socket into.
If I press down on the nut and try to do it by hand the alloy thread just spins.
I'm thinking I'm going to have to machine the socket down or to enlarge the opening on the mirror unit...

I much prefer the stock ones to the tiny aftermarket mirrors... the tiny ones look very out of place to me, but it is personal choice.

When i put the standard 1 next to the small one fitted,it looked so much btr.people that have seen them have commented on how much btr the car looks without great big prince charles jug ear mirrors.i think the standard ones not only stick out too far,they dominate the car looking front on.not seen many sports cars with huge mirrors!!!

As it happens I saw Charles and Camilla in London last night but sadly I wasn't able to pass on your thoughts about the noble mirrors.The car for me is not an all out racer or I would have got a another Caterham or a Radical so I'm happy with the standard mirrors, I'd just like to be able to put the buggers back on
