Hi fellas, I'm assuming my 3R wheels should've had little black plastic bolts around the circumference when new? So how do these fit in? Where do I get them from? (I assume Jetstream!) Costings etc.. Also I'm toying with the idea of a front splitter- however I feel the ground clearance on ramps is brilliant at the mo without one and I understand it will be a bit more trickier with a splitter! So I expect I'm trying to ask is there a practical one which isn't too cumbersome? many thanks John

Jetstream for the splitter as well. the addition of one doesnt make a massive difference to ground clearance.

As for wheel bolts. Dont think jetstream have any more. do a search, there are plenty of people that have had this problem

Chromed plastics bolts, that get eaten by the chemical cleaners used before refinishing the wheels. Some have removed the heads from stainless cap-heads and bonded them into the recesses I recall.

I disagree. The OE splittter out of the factory had a lip depth of approx. 12mm - that makes a big difference on speed humps. It is interesting that just a few mills shaved off of the splitter clears most humps. If you have severe humps where you drive then I suggest you either don't fit one or buy one and shave off a few mills before fitting.

Totally agree, the splitter does make quite a difference to front clearance and being fibreglass and not plastic when you scrape a speed hump pedestrians jump and wince for you.

The forward protrusion is a factor, you could mount the splitter with less sticking out and that would help.

Must say I have very few problems with my carbon one but it's probably less than 12mm lip. Sticks out about 50mm.
The only thing it hits is a stopcock at the bottom of my vey steep driveway.

Splitters find their own level in the end once they've hit enough stuff!

Tux's carbon one improved my clearance over the standard fibreglass no end. If you want a standard one I think I've got one in the garage in Suffolk. Not perfect but serviceable.

IMHO don't go metal John. Fibreglass (and to a lesser extent CF) gives - metal won't as much anything you hit will transmit more force up into the clam and it may cause micro cracks.

The benefit of the OE splitter is that it gives. You should hear the noise going over some humps sometimes - sounds like the front has been ripped off but you get out and take a sheepish look and - nothing!

An ally splitter may work I suppose.

Stand corrected!

Id go for a Carbon one. They look better and have a bit more clearance than the fibreglass. Either Tuxman or Jetstream i believe

Sorry I didn't explain myself properly! I mean little metal caps/bolts that tap into the wheel recesses (like the original plastic ones) Anyone got these?
I'm trying to get to the Autosport show this Saturday, I'll have a chat there I think to get an opinion on splitter suitability/costings with the knowledgeable people I'm bound to be bumping into! Thanks for the input, cheers John.

Agree with John, the ground clearance without is really good. (I live in west London!)

BUT they look sh*t without one.
The standard item has a lip the size of Jimmy Hill's chin!
Tuxman does a carbon one. Looks awesome, not too protruding and not such a thick lip. But most importantly looks awesome.

I have to reverse down ramps into my garage with a splitter. Could go forwards without one. The sacrifices we make for vanity.......
