Hi John,
There are several of us going across to the Ring in July on two trips the first one is a 2 day track day with Destination Nurburgring Wednesday 2nd & Thursday 3rd July. Travelling on Tuesday 1st July Partyboat from Hull to Rotterdam.
Plus we will be doing 3 Tourist days too on this trip next day Friday 4th, Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th.
The Tourist days are very risky especially with bikes on at the same time & dilettante drivers etc plus with little or no knowledge of the Ring can be pretty daunting. The track days are a safer option & for 1st visit they are recommended & are also very well run, still get idiots on though, just be very extremely careful if damp or wet. I don't go on if any of the latter!
The 2nd trip a little later in July around 10 lads are going mostly Nobles, CSL & an Exige S all travelling to the Ring on the Friday 11th from Harwich. Tourist days Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th (no track days). Then onto Spa for a track day with Bookatrack for the Monday 14th, finally to Zandvoort on Tuesday 15th for the track day again with Bookatrack on the 16th.
At the Ring we usually stay in the Dorint Hotel that is situated next to the F1 Grand Prix track which has amazing views of the Eiffel mountains & the Nordschliefe. We have stayed in the Lindner Congress a few times which is classier but without the view. They are loads of places to stay in n around Nurburg & Adenau.
At Spa Radisson Blu
At Zandvoort Huis Ter Duin at nearby Nordwijk, class Hotel near enough on the beach.
Fully comprehensive Insurance is near impossible to get for Tourist days or impossible. It is a grey area as our Insurance companies have to pay out by law to 3rd party's if there is an accident etc then they'll come after you for their outlay which can result in a life changing scenario....
I'm with Competition & Car Insurance, last year they wouldn't cover under their 5 track day rule, 2 in Europe I think is the limit, even on the DN track days they wouldn't cover on their policy even though DN are in ATDO they would for an additional substantial fee for which I can't remember. Check with your insurance company for track day cover.
If you go on any of the above trip dates I'd be more than happy to take you out on the Ring to show you the 'basics'. Take care & hopefully see ye there.
