Hey Steve, on my car...

Engine - 8litres Shell helix ultra racing 10w60 (eBay 20 litre barrels for £90 will last a couple of services and top ups)

Brake fluid - Motul RBF 660 dot 4 (buy 2 bottle kits on eBay with brake cleaner from motul)

Gearbox - standard pish
Power steering - standard pish
Clutch - probably standard pish

All works great, hope that helps smile

Hi Graham, thanks for that. Do you know if the gearbox man stipulates any gear oil or not?
Cheers

He just said use a good quality gear oil.

I just use comma 75w90 ATL which is a fairly standard transmission fluid, changed regularly it's as good as any. Proven over the last couple of years.

Also use comma power steering fluid,

Google Autosave comma oils for a look.

DOT 4 fluid is the current mainstream brake fluid.

DOT 5.1 has higher specification still and is for fast road and occasional track day use. It has
a similar spec to DOT4 for the boiling point (>260)
but is a lot lower viscosity.

Graham i can find that exact oil when searching google. there seems to be 2 types of 75w 90. one is fully synthetic and one is semi, so which one should i get?

Steve, fully synthetic if possible but I did use semi for a year or two till last year.

Jay heal, in general terms the definitions you state are correct, however... Always read the bottle!

A high quality dot 4 like motul rbf660 has a boiling point of 325 C

A average quality dot 5.1 like comma has a boiling point of 180 C.

Happy to help

Graham
