Last year l converted my Ecu & dash to MoTec with full data logging & display, throughout last year l noticed an oil surge/pressure issue whilst on track in certain instances.

Using the Noble trackday sump l had taken it for granted that it was suitable for my application but bearing in mind it was designed for a standard Noble on trackdays and by improving grip, cornering speeds & breaking etc it's design is not ideal for the more developed cars.
Having explored every option l could find including a Dry sump (which isn't viable in my opinion & i'm not prepared to go through a years development to get it working correctly) l eventually decided on a replacement baffle plate for the existing sump. The baffle plate includes oil flow control flaps/gates so no matter which type of corner / braking / acceleration etc the oil pickup is kept in oil by controlling the flow in & out of the collector area.

On the MoTec l had my oil alarm set at 2bar when the engine is over 3000rpm & it wasn't uncommon to see it low as 1.3 - 1.6 bar in tight righthand bends especially if preceeded by heavy breaking or a twisty section whereby the oil is all going over to the deep side (gearbox end) of the sump with no means of stopping it & the fact that the raised radius on top of the existing baffle is actually stopping oil finding it's way back into the existing collector pot from the block!

The race baffle plate requires a empty open sump so the existing alloy collector pot & wings need removing -

Then fit the new baffle plate -

I spent all day yesterday testing at Cadwell (which anybody that's ever been will know has nearly every type of corner going) in great conditions. l set the alarm upto 2.5bar & had no warnings at all, on studying the data the lowest oil pressure on track was 2.86 bar so i'm satisfied that it's overcome the issue.

If anyones interested in one it requires removal of your sump which either means engine out or chassis cut but if your quick on track then maybe it could help protect you engine, should anyone want one l have to order in batches of ten to get a sensible cost down to £300 (which includes the initial design cost).

If nothing else when on track always ensure that your oil level is bang on maximum but don't overfill.

Kevin

Thanks Adrain, 5-hours none stop (except for an F1 refuelling stop) with the van & trailer last nite!

Will the designs be kept so maybe another batch can be brought later. I'm probably a few years away from having to worry about it and it will probably get lost over that time.

just in case there are any sceptics, my telemetry on track showed exactly the same dramatic drop in oil pressure in the same turns kevin's did... so it wasn't unique to his car or driving style (i.e. fast lol).
