Technically, that's a wiring issue, not and ECU issue.... ;D

Its just a 9-pin DIN you can buy from RS etc. Not impossible to de-solder the original and re-wire to a new one.

chris was told that the 9 pin connector to the ece seems to be corroded, causing the problem with his car. running rough, like it was on 5 cylinders, lots of smoke but its not oil smoke. car was running quite rich before this problem started.

I had a similar issue, running really rich, lumpy idle, smoke, misfire etc.
Tried all the usual suspects plugs, lambdas, coil packs before giving up and sending it to Jetstream who managed to find the fault, turned out the cam timing on rear bank had jumped 3 teeth!!!
Don't have a clue how that happened but its fixed now so I'm happy! smile

Ah, I see. I don't believe anything in that connector can affect the ECU to make the engine run rough. It's just a comms protocol over two serial lines. Can't see it magically making the correct serial signal to alter maps etc.

Suggest you try and reset the adaptive maps first. That may help.
