The bad news is that its a noble only part and not available in component form so you either buy second hand or new from noble... its £850 plus vat!!!!

I just stripped my heater matrix box as I wanted to replace the air con evaporator as mine looked filthy and no way it would have been letting air through.

its a truly poorly designed unit, doesn't actually do what its supposed to in comparison to the dials... for example when adjusted correctly and the dial is on windscreen position its actually feeding the floor screen and vents in a ratio of 50% floor rest to floor or vents depending what is open!!!!! so if you want to demise your screen slap it in the vents position as if the vents are shut then its the only position that will 100% feed the screen.

Thats why I have started from scratch and designed an entire new unit for my car using all new components with trap doors with new resistors etc etc... i hope to have ice cold air con with decent control as to were the air goes... time will tell if I'm successful.

If you want to replace just the matrix I could be persuaded to sell you my mint second hand one, but you will have to get the entire box out and strip it down, you could then go the same way bondy etc have gone and use a sierra resistor pack etc.

Or wrap some nichrome wire around a pencil and make your own. i'm sure Noble get the kids to make these in school.

Wonder if this lot can repair or recommend a retrofit out of something else

Interesting, I've been meaning to look at that for ages as I wondered if the cable was disconnected or broken as it has so little effect. You don't think there's any way to improve the existing system/unit?

Rob, the stock box would need major rework, it stacks the evaporator and the heater matrix next to each other so air must go through both hence no real blast of cool air and it's just a flap that closes either the floor or windscreen/vents....

The unit I have made has trap doors to direct air so it can bypass the matrix and air exits to 3 places depending upon the dial... Been a nightmare to design and has really eaten into my time to work on other parts of the car, but I want it right and to work.
Also my complete unit is 5 kgs lighter :-)

Thanks for all that info guys ! ...I was wondering how big a job it is to get the matrix and resistors out and whether anyone knows a link that explains how to do it maybe with pictures ? Its been wrong since I got the car and I am trying to decide how big a job I am facing ( or whether only to drive her in warm , dry conditions ! wink )

Thanks Nigel

the resistors are easy replacement as they are under the front clam in the box that holds the blower... Im using a later model ford item that still cheap but I hope is more robust.

having removed my dash and thus the heater matrix box I would say its impossible to get out with the dash in situ, but I am reliably told it was done on RowW's car so it must be possible... must be an absolute nightmare though.... make no mistake its a big job imo.

can you help me locate the resistors Andy , cos I had a good look and couldnt find them ? ...if you ace with pictures and arrows etc that would be great ...I thought that they were also under the dash but I dont know ... if I could change those , most of my problems would go away smile

here is a picture of my evaporator... I had found that the air con wasn't as effective as previous but it was never great so assumed it just needed as gas due to age of car.
There isn't a pollen filter (or any filter at all) for the Stock system hence dirty air sticks to the evaporator and makes it next to useless... All the air from the fan has to pass through the evaporator.

Thanks Andy ! ...that is brilliant ! ..but cant tell from the thread which direction you would go at it if only wanting to change the resistor , as it seems you were in the middle of a full strip down .. One person says that you can get at them from under the clam ? ...if this that case ? do you have to cut anything or can you just strip it ? thanks in advance !

the resistors are accessed from under the front clam.... mine is stripped so i can't post a pic but they are to one side of the fan box (windscreen motor side i think) and you unscrew 2 flat blade screws on mine.
