Big starting problem

Hi I have a problem with my 3r .When I turn ignition on the key does nothing and the starter button does nothing but the lights on the ignition stay bright although the radio/dvd lights go off ,after 3 or 4 attempts at turning ignition on and off and trying the car suddenly starts . any ideas appreciated to what is happening as a bit worried it may happen and not start at all .

Sounds like imoboliser is on. Try locking and unlocking the car and try again
