Dirty 3R headlamp units?

I've a problem with smearing on the inside of one of my plastic headlamp covers - I think soemone once tried to clean the surface with a waxy cloth and that was that!

Many people have attemtped to clean this up but, so far, there seems to be no expertise out there able to do it properly - they just move the mess around!

Any suggestions would be welcomed?!

Get a non-R bonnet - no perspex cover!!!

Use some cellulose thinners or something like that.

Yep, thinners or similar so long as they don't melt the plastic but the problem is getting your hand into the pod!

Yep clearly the lense cover would need removing first. Dunno how dealers do this, but likely they apply some moderate heat and then peel them out?

Thinners will leave a greasy surface.

That would be easy-peasy but the problem is that no one wants to remove the cover (not the factory or dealer!) for fear of not getting as perfect seal again so you're left with the two small lampholder cutouts to work through - not easy!
