On the way to Elvington, the car strangely popped out of 3rd gear. I thought nothing of it at first, but then, going round the track it got worse.

It happens when either feathering or taking the foot off the accelerator.

Any Ideas?

Really worried it is terminal.

Could be the linkage. If it's happening when you take your foot off it could be the cables have got themselves a bit wrapped up and as the engine settles back down it's pulling on the gearchange.

Probably an idea to give everything a good wiggle and see if that helps.

If not it may be just as simple as adjusting the selector.

Thanks, but have checked the linkage, and I am pretty sure it's ok.

I thought that may be the prob, engine movement points to that but we had the linkage removed and put back on.

Any other ideas?

Sorry - none. Trip back to the dealer/factory to get them to look at it is the best I can suggest.

Thanks joust

My thoughts too, just no time to get down to the factory at the moment.

Maybe check your top engine mount (offside near the power-steering filler) to see if its loose (mine wss once) as this leads to all sorts of issues.

It's how your linkage is adjusted.

I had the exact same problem. Popped out of 3rd from time to time, almost always on deceleration.

You need to adjust the shift linkage that's sitting on the tranny so that the movement of the shifter into 3rd gear does a better job applying more pressure (gives it "more cable"). You don't have to mess with the side-to-side shift linkage adjustments.

As a side benefit from doing this, the shifts (throws) into 2nd and 4th became shorter.

(P.S. My Noble just sold! I probably won't be checking out the Noble forum in Pistonheads any further, so best wishes to all and good luck to you!)

Marc, if you get to read this post please pass on the PH contact details to the new owner (unless it was a dealer).

And, good luck to you!
