A little problem with the door

Anybody know how the door mechanism works?

Namely the metal bar that comes out of the main part of the bodywork. Mines is slack and causing a few problems closing the drivers side. It has a locking nut on it but I'm finding it difficult to tighten it that much.

Or, you can hold the bar bit with a pair of mole grips (with suitable padding so as to not mark it), pull it taught outwards, and then tighten up the nut on the outside with a spanner. Much easier than faffing around
