Guys, can someone summarise the differences between the two models???

bhp, spec, suspension, gearbox, known issues etc etc?

Cheers!

Did have a look, and couldn't find it I suspect the thread title doesn't help much.

Off the top of my head I think the differences are :

- 32bhp less and peakier engine in 2.5 (IIRC - 2.5 was before my time really!).
- 5 spd box (mechanically less robust and wider ratios , more relaxed driving though).
- LSD (helps power out of corners, should be very tough (apparently no recorded failures of this!)).
- ECU changed from magnetti marelli to MBE. The latter seemingly more able to handle life in the engine bay.

Note that not all 3s and 3Rs have the 6 spd box and LSD! Also some 2.5s will have had the ECU replaced if it failed (not all do by any means, but enough to spot a bit of a pattern), sometimes with the power upgrade to 350ish bhp (again peakier than a 3l, but fun too). If you go for a 2.5, then upgraded ECU is a definite nice to have as its an expensive job (new loom required).

Presuming you wish to track the car, you need the trackday sump too. Only downside is that it then needs a lot of oil to fill!

The 3Rs also got the new lights, more leather trim inside the cabin, more sound deadening, new alloys, and body coloured wing (so in some regards lard, but depends what you are after! It certainly looks prettier).

Other nice to haves :

- solid brake line mod.
- brake pedal mod (makes heal and toe easier, but depends on your technique etc).
- oil pressure/temp gauge (if you track it and want to monitor things).
- DS2500 brake pads.

The very newest cars have improved turning circle and a better gear linkage, but only the very latest.

One good careful owner, and a great price considering it's coming from a dealer

Must have a word with them about the colour and the number of owners, it's *indigo* blue and 1 previous owner!

Cars hit the dealer network if you do a trade in, just like any other marque.

That's not bad from a dealer!

Doesn't the 2 owners relate to the fact that yours was an ex demonstrator, so the first few months would have had the dealers name on the V5?

Nope - when I got it it was unregistered. It *was* going to be MV's demostrator, but they wanted a 3, not a 2.5l.

Hence when I got it it only had the 60 odd test drive miles on it.

I didn't think it was a bad price either - very reasonable margin over what I got. A bargain !

If the engine size is 0.0 litres as per their web page, it must be good on fuel economy then?

If you go for the original, classic, excellent 2.5

Make sure it's had the ECU changed. The old ones are Magnetti Marelli and they a prone to failure!

I fell foul of this and had to fork out for a new ECU. Doesn't sound that expensive until you find out that the new ECU needs a different wiring loom....

Wonder if they got the 33k for it. Privately cars of that age seemed to be fetching 27-28k from what I can gather.

I'm hoping it did fetch 33 personally

Would have thought it wasn't far off.
They have very little stock at the moment as they have only just started doing nobles & ditched the tvr's.
