ROAD CLOSED AFTER CRASH

A sports car was badly damaged when it was involved in a crash which blocked a busy city road.

One eyewitness said it appeared the car hit a bus shelter and a wall, before crashing into a lamppost.

The fire service said two vehicles were involved in the accident in London Road, Leicester, close to its junction with Knighton Drive, at about 12.15pm, yesterday.

Police blocked off the road between Victoria Park and the Leicester Racecourse roundabout during a clear-up.

The eyewitness, who would not be named, said: "The damage was quite spectacular."

The ambulance service said one patient was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary.

Apparently they were ok - if you see the other post below about this. Looks like they hit the post nice and square on which has to beat a side impact.

Can't think of much worse than hitting a bus shelter =/

Where was that story from?

Interestingly that area is where they put mobile speed cameras, which if the stats are to be believed, it therefore has a high KSI rating.

Looks like the car held up incredibly well, and I'm glad no-one was seriously hurt - although it must be very frightening when that happens.
