Morning Gentlemen,

I have searched the archives but have not found any chit chat about colour coding the door handles. Apart from the chap who is removing them all together, has anyone painted them body colour yet. I would like to as I think it would look great but short of getting out my airfix F14 set and painting them by hand with enammel, I am not too sure if its possible.

Thought we needed a topic for the day, anyone else bored at work?

Morning Mr Noble,

Originally mine were painted the same colour as the car to begin with!! it did look really good and anyway competent spray shop can do it for you relatively cheap so theres no problems there!

I was just always used to the novelty of my TVR i guess the push button always goes down a treat with people!!

Will it be costing more than a few pounds? I think you said you were putting the button in hhe side vent below the current position. Do they then fill in the hole and repaint the door?

How would I get hold of the paint, and would it not chip off eaisly. I think I remember spraying the bumpers on my first car and needing to put plastisiser in the mix.

Yes you will need a plastic primer but its not that expensive, if you ring the factory they will give you the paint code of the colour of your car and you can get it matched!!

I am getting my mate to spray my handles next weedend. Very easy job and cheap. Paint will cost more than the job. He has done this to a few cars I have owned in the past and it has never flaked off. If you live near Hertfordshire I will give you his number.

You'd need to get a body shop to do it really. My concern is that the plastic is textured, so might need sanding down to get a good finish. I'm tempted to get it done though as they are very naff (although the internal pulls are worse ).

Need to find a capable body shop in the Cambridge area. Don't suppose yours is Azure is it. Could get a 2 for 1 deal somewhere!!

No mine is not Azure. The paint cost me £30 for a half a ltr of Basecoat (Min you can buy) from Morrelli in Enfield. First you use a plastisizer then 2 pac primer which will lose the texture then flat down with fine paper and apply the basecoat then lacquer. Job Done!

My friend is located in Baldock

When you buy the car in the States 1G ask you if you'd like the door handles color keyed. Noble really should do this as standard since it does improve the look of the car.

Stu how long will it take with the car? Presumably it requires leaving them a while to dry properly which might be a bit tricky?

Wonder what the handles are from (Is it an old fiesta?), if so I could buy a 2nd set so I'm not without door handles whilst its done.

Good idea. Not being funny but they are exactally the same as my A reg austin metro!

Could we not buy a set that are painted.

Thats an idea, I could get a load of metro handles from a scrappy and spray them (mostly titanium!) and flog them to all you guys!!

Does 1G spray them themself?

Everything from the car is ford!! don't think the old rover metro comes into it!!

The door handels are the same as the mk3 fiestas and Mondeos including the interior ones!!

The outer and inner handles are Not from a ford Mondeo or Fiesta that I am 100% Sure of. The inner handles are off of a metro for sure.

That will be the top secret Ford Metro then.

Would be nice to find a prettier direct replacement for the outside and inside handles. Might even put them on both sides of the car come to think of it!!

I had a look a while back for aftermarket metro door pulls. Couldn't find any. There never was much for those cars (I used to own a metro gta as my first car!)

My 1st car too. I had a 998cc beast that became capable of warp speed as I fitted the full MG body kit and interion. I was well known at every scrap yard in the region!

Great car. (for the first month or 2 anyway)
