Especially when the window is down, really strong smell of exhaust fumes.

Been out for a long spin, I now have a headache.

Nope. Bad. To be honest, I don't see how it can happen.

My cabin gets smelly after the car is left for a while. Apparently some do this but a solution hasn't yet been found. Apparently one car was cured by replacing a load of hoses, but 200 quid of work for something that may not solve the problem seems silly.

Ash,

Is the car running OK? If it feels a bit weird, check the breather crank case pipes. www.lotus-elise.org.uk/noble/diary.htm under 13th Dec 03 shows what happened and that was a bit smelly.

Apart from that just pull around every other pipe you can find!

The pipe that connects the air filter to the inlet maifold (I think) blew off a few weeks ago. Lost all turbo power, replaced it and all was ok, maybe it is coming lose again.

Thanks joust, will check tomorrow.

Mine does the same. Hasn't this been mentioned on another thread to do with air over the car.

If you wind the window down you draw in the exhausts fumes that are caught in the vortices behind the car...or something along those lines.

I'm sure Paul Cundy mentioned it when talking about intercoolers. Thought it was normal, albeit a pain?

Doesn't feel normal. I am sure when I first got her this was not an issue.

Thanks all for your input.

Could you be more specific about where the velcro is? Don't want to start pulling appart trim randomly as I've broken so many trim fixings on previous cars

Are you talking petrol fumes or exhaust?

I had a similar problem which took a while to resolve but turned out to be a leaking fuel tank. I believe this was a common problem with some early cars. I had the tank replaced under warranty.

How did they ascertain that it was leaking? My car is well out of warranty now too =/ It smells of petrol in the cabin though, and seems to build up if you leave it a while. Is this a similar symptom to what you had? If so do you mind saying what build no your car was?

Do you know where it was leaking from so I can be more specific if I get it checked?

Thanks.

My car was NUS0057 so we had the added pleasure of working with an engine installer here in the States. The fuel leak was right at the tank and fuel filter. The exhaust leak was at the manifold and block I believe. I didn't actually see it myself.

The carpeting/velcro (on left hand drive car) is at the rear of the tunnel in the cabin just behind the edge of the seat on the passeneger's side. You can just give it an easy pull. If it is velcro it will lift. You don't need to pull it very hard. You can feel through the carpet and feel the access plate and 2 screws.

Vegantune think mine also might be down to some fuel hoses having turned porous. I'm no expert, but it does seem a tad far fetched that they'd release that much vapour.

Anyway thanks for the tips guys. Will see if we can find anything. I would so love for it to not stink of petrol inside the cabin when its been left a while, it makes my other half sick =/
