Guys,
Would I be correct in saying a GTO 3R should have a LSD? If so, is their easy was to check if it is working correctly? When I say easy, I mean for a dealership or garage?
thanks,
I saw "LSD" and for a minute I was thinking about reaching for my Grateful Dead albums and getting that beanbag down from the loft!!!
As far as I recall, LSD came with the 6-speed gearbox upgrade on early 3R's (you couldn't have it alone) but is now standard fitment on all 3R's and M400's.
Beleive it or not, my 3R has the letters "LSD" hand-written on the gearbox casing! Basically, if you buy a 6-speeder you have LSD.
PS - I'm not that old really :-)

Select first gear, dial in 6000rpm, release clutch. If the car draws a number 1 on the road its not working, if it draws a number 11 its working properly
In all seriousness though I suggest you contact the factory (0870 758 6663) and they will be able to tell you if the car is fitted with an LSD or not and the best way to ensure it is operating properly and within spec. A Mid 04 3R should have an LSD fitted.
Best Regards
Matt

Thought you could test an LSD by just putting one wheel on some grass/low friction surface and seeing if that one span up rather than the one on the grippier surface.
Or jack the rear of the car up and see if both wheels turn in the same direction when you spin one wheel by hand.
However the specs for the ATB dictate that the diff gradualy locks/bias's drive/torque as torque input increases and as such if your not putting alot of torque through it it may not lock or act in the same way as a plate type LSD would.

So, if it goes in the same direction it is not working? Opposite direction it is working?
Does it have a fluid based LSD the noble?
Cheers

Sorry Gramps I think you may have to explain that one to us young'uns!
Pounds, shillings and pence.
What is "Grateful Dead", and what is an "album"?
Martin.

It has a Quaife ATB mechanical Diff, it is of the torque biasing type so uses gears as opposed to fluid or plates. Look on the Quaife site for more info.
