A bit of advise please.
GTO 3 and the engine water temp sits at 100deg C and the fans come on at 103. Is this correct. It seems too hot to me !
Also next to the turbo guage is a small round switch with an LED in it. What does this do ?
Thanks in advance.

Mine sits at 90 c and fans come on at 93ish.

Switch does nothing. Its a spare, incase you wanted to fit Neon tubes under the car or something.

Er one of the switches is fogs. I think some cars may have a spare switch that was originally going to be a turbo off switch or something, but it never happened.

Seems too high - mine's 91 running - rock steady and 92-93 fans on.

When 100 is indicated on the gauge how shortly afterwards do the fans come on?

Its likely the temp gauge is out. Pop to a dealer or service centre and they should be able to plug the laptop in and see what temperature the ECU reckons the coolant is. The sensor the ECU samples is much more accurate than that used to drive the gauge. Either way if the car appears to be running a touch warm its worthwhile calling into a service centre/dealer just to be sure all is well.

The switches in the dash are Rear Fog and "Spare" it was original going to be used to drop boost to a lower level but wasn't implimented for various reasons.

Hope this helps.

Best Regards
Matt

Check out the piccies at
www.lotus-elise.org.uk/noble/diary.htm

If you have fans that look like

then all you need to do is get the guage checked by your service centre.

Also, as you'll see in my diary, it's easy to check the temps yourself with a £10 multimeter - anything around 100C in the rad itself (as shown) is not good news and you should pop it back.

The switch with the LED in it is the rear fog lamp if it lights up when you turn it on with the lights on!

That one has 'Fog Lamp' emblazoned around it! At least it does on my car -maybe they just saw me coming.
I also have a second rocker switch, which when friends taking passenger rides asked me what it did, I impressed them with a stunning display of a small red LED coming on. Nothing else. The demonstration continued with changing gears with the red buttons on the steering wheel....parp, parp. And so onto using the accelerator.....and no-one ever asked again what the little red light was for, or why the car parped when changing gear.

I will have to get it to Mole Valley before LeMans. (3 months I know, but time does fly )

Okay it could just be the gauge over reading by 10 degrees but best bet would be to get it checked. Should only take them a few minutes.

I'll keep an eye out for you at Le-Mans.

The switch disables the traction control - thought everyone knew that! Don't touch it in the wet!
