CSL v Noble 3L
Discussion
The Noble is much quicker in a straight line at lower speeds then the acceleration seems to trail off becoming only a bit quicker than the Repmobile:

And for good measure, and because I told Dan I couldn't resist:

Never paid much attention to the CSL's but I spent the morning helping a mate buy a Z4 and they had a CSL in there (cambridge), very impressed. Looked lovely. Think I might prefer a manual though if it were poss.
Would love to get a ride Nathan, if I ever meet you on track!
Not that I am tempted to buy on of course!! Not for a year or 2 anyway!!

Not sure how scientific that test was, but it cetainly highlights my cautious braking!

I never got that cheque you 'posted'! Us actors need to get paid you know!

So how difficult would it be to put Corsa's/Cups on the 3R then?? Amazing grip.
Corsa's or tyres with similar grip levels would require an upgrade of suspension if the advantage the tyres offered was to be used properly. M400 Specification spec springs/dampers would be a good starting point.
Best Regards
Matt

Genius! i like the title I was at Spa (Belgium) Wednesday in the only Noble (M400) and there were about 5 or 6 CSL.
I have only been to Spa once before (last year for just one day in S4 400bhp) and so in all have two days experience there. Not much other track work other than 5 laps ring, and back in 1995 when I did one season novice 600 bike racing. Owch!
My M400 was new on the previous Wednesday evening, having its 1000 mile service on Friday am, then did 1 hour at Bruntingthorpe on Sunday. Monday am set of for Spa. 5 laps ring Tuesday PM, then all day Spa Wednesday. So you could say I do not have much experience either on track or in a Noble.
The drivers in the CSL’s were obviously well into it and this is what one said to me.
No matter what I tried or where I tried it you were right there pushing me and it seems that where my CSL was right on the very edge you looked relaxed and could push the Noble inside or outside at every corner.
I know that I did not have to pull over to let CSLs by as often as they had to pull over to let me by in the Noble.
So to conclude, I would expect in a tight short circuit a noble should win over a CSL EASILY, but on a very fast track maybe a CSL would have a good chance.
In most ways I imagine the CSL is much more comfy, better built and almost certainly more reliable and easier to live with. But the Noble lets a complete novice like me look much better than I am on a circuit., such that I feel that if I had tried my 8.39 lap of the ring in a CSL I would have crashed, like I expect I would in a CSL at Spa if I pushed it as hard as needed to keep with my Noble which NEVER even hinted at being stressed. And yes I did think about buying a CSL but did not like the box when I tested it. Yet in saying that the Noble box is far from perfect and I often missed gears at critical times.
I think I can see why the CSL is loved, but I do not believe it can corner as well as a Noble M400.
My Noble was spitting out 1lt oil from a breather about every hour of racing. (well at least the engine bay wont rust and the engine oil is always new!) I had only 1mm tread at 2500 miles and wore the front pads out (my fault not the cars) (note these were the standard road pads which I have now replaced with race pads) The car is VERY badly grit basted (a result of soft paint and being up the arse of CSL amongst many others all day) the massive amount of grit that gets inside the cabin suggests a dust filter is badly needed on the vents or breathing mask?
Silverline were at Spa and as it started raining just before I left they fitted a new set of tyres. By the time I got back to Warwick through none stop heavy rain the exhaust was blowing badly and I found water leaks near the mirrors.
Sill what a thrilling experience, I can see why so many people love their M400s.

Did you see this one:
His target weight is 1100Kg's, carbon body, bespoke suspention parts, Motec M800 ECU on a standard engine so ~380bhp, he's now got a hewland sequential straight cut box on order!
The M400 should wipe the floor with a CSL, 400bhp per tonne verses 260bhp per tonne. Weirdly I find the BMW to be much easier to drive than my old GTO3 (probably because everything happens slower
), I'm going to have to try an M400 at some point.

I am going to steer well clear of driving an M400 untill I could afford one!!
Mr. N,
Beware as abstaining from a Noble test drive doesn't always mean you won't empty your piggy bank - I purchased my 3R from new without ever driving one (I did take an early GTO 3 test drive a while before but only up the road from MV and back!) :-)

YES I saw the red thing in the pits garage not out on the track. Looked like someone had vandalised it with an axe. I believe its owner also has a red Ferrari which he thinks is faster than my M400 but we did not get to test that. However he did try to insult the Noble by calling it a kit car. I just said call it what you like but it will sort your 360 out any day. I have to admit that I do like the 360, but I think for £40k extra I could get the badge for my Noble, and for another £40k I could make the Noble less of a kit car than a 360, Still if he wants to think that that’s his choice.
Any idea what the red thing cost??££££££
Kevin
I have not pin-pointed the exact location of the oil leak but it seems to fill all the small pockets on top of the gearbox so it is from the near side top of the engine/hoses etc.
There is no smoke from the exhaust at any time, but the exhaust is blowing badly and it’s a pig to see how to get in to tighten it all up.
If I clean it all out and go for a gentle drive (under 4k revs) it seems fine, but every time someone comes round and says WOW! take me for a drive and I give it some 6k+ its covered in oil again.
I think I will take it in to Noble HQ on Monday for them to check and sort along with the exhaust and sticky gears. (not as bad as an 3R I tested)
