Would anyone have an opinion on why 3 Noble dealers are telling me that they tend to avoid the 2.5? I appreciate that as the first of the breed they would of have had their fair share of troubles but surely there would be a market for them in the network if they were priced right? I also wonder what that message is sending out to potential buyers? It was my intention originally to go for one of these but it has given me a touch of the willies and am wondering wether to spend the extra for the 'R' even though it will be a 'toy'.All opinions appreciated.
Andy,
If you haven't done already then I suggest you get youself a copy of last month's EVO. There's a full review of all the things to look out for with the various versions.
I looked at the 2.5, 3 and 3R's last summer and went for the 2.5. Providing it has had the ECU upgrade from the Magnetti ECU, and has the track day sump if your planning on tracking it, then I think your pretty safe (service history dependant).
Do a search on the forum, this has been covered a number of times. Nothing inherently wrong with the 2.5 from my experience.....it's a fantastic car !!
If you have the budget for the later car's then there a list of improvements made.....all depends on your budget, but I certainly wouldn't view a 2.5 as a car to avoid.
Simon.

Not that suprised as like BMW et. all dealers they will want 2 do deals on newer cars. How many 3-5 yr old bmws do you find on the forecourt of a main dealer?
Saying that there r some dealers that care about what the customer needs are. MV & NL seem 2 be 2 that fall into that cat.
I personally think 2.5s r The bargin of the year!

The 2.5 is an excellent car and if like me you have a soft spot for more 'old school' turbo cars which provide a bit of a kick when they come on boost you'll love the 2.5.
80% of them now have the later MBE ECU and nearly all have the revised radiator fans/shroud and various other minor upgrades.
Power isn't really an issue, whilst the cars are rated at 310bhp as standard its fairly easy to 'upgrade' this to circa 350bhp with the addition of electronic boost control and revised mapping. The addition of a suitable intercooler, BOV and exhaust system along with futher revisions to mapping can yield around 360bhp with no power drop off and much better throttle response. Whilst the torque curve at this level isn't quite as linear as that of the 3 litre cars it certainly doesn't detract from the car in any way.
Best Regards
Matt

I am only the second owner of my particular 2.5, now just over 3 yrs old. It has not had the ECU upgrade, and touch wood, thus far, has not given me any trouble whatsoever.
I drive it twice a day for half an hour each time, and it is just sheer driving pleasure from point to point.
As Justin said...bargain of the year
(Also unlikely to depreciate much more from here!)

Owen,
Think I saw from previous post that you've had the Foulks BOV and Intercooler fitted. How much difference have they made to the car? What else have you had done?
Mine's bog standard at the moment and I'm debating whether to start modding the car, or leave it alone and update to a 3R at some point. Only had the car since last summer and I'm reluctant to take the sale hit just for another 40bhp (I know there's a other changes).
Seems the BOV is a relatively cheap way to change the car performance and get rid of the turbo lag?
