M400 tyre choice (again!)

Hi all

Some of you might know from previous posts that us S-African Noble owners did not get Pirelli Corsa's fitted to our M400's. Many months later the situation continues, with Corsa's not been available locally, even through Pirelli SA.

My tyres need replacing, and I can either get another set of S-03's of change to Yokohama A048's. The Yoko's would seem to be a better match to the Corsa's, being semi-competition tyres.

Anyone care to offer advice?

Ian, I got my replacement sets from from tirerack.com, and at a good price, so I recommend you do the same.

The problem is that in order to bring tyre into SA, I need to be in possesion of an import permit. That was why I was wondering if the Yoko's would not be a better bet than the S-03's.

The factory should really respond to this one as they always say that the M12/M400's tyre type is finely tuned to the chassis synamics so how can they sell an M400 in SA without Corsas?!

Ah. They don't make it easy do they!

AMG Merc is right - you really need the proper spec tyres as the M400 is setup for the Corsas. Contact the factory or get an import permit, whichever gets it done most expediently.

Nathan, possibly although applying a gnome translator results in a more plausible explanation;

"the Yokos get grippier and grippier as they get hotter and hotter, the Corsa's go "off" over a certain temp. SA is mostly dry, ergo presuming the Yokos are there already (not needing an import license) its a no brainer; buy the Yokos."

Sir Paul, a no brainer to you maybe but as far as I understand it Yokos are not recommended rubber for the M400 whereas Corsas are (now where's that scatching head emoticon?!)?!

Maybe but if you've got to apply for an import license to get a set of Corsas but the Yokos are available without one and its SA you live in where its hot then I'd go for the Yokos. They'll only last 6K or so and after that you can revert to the Corsas if they don't cut the mustard. The tyres are replaced so often on a Noble its only ever a short term commitment.

That's what my scratched head came up with.

It's confirmed then. American English is very very different from British English.

I agree with Paul's rationale, the Yoko's are worth a bash - esp as I'm taking part in a Cannonball run type event soon, and I'd like some grippy tyres.

BTW, its winter down here in Cape Town, and rather wet. But as they say, yer pays yer money and takes yer chances.....
