Sounds about right - shows what a "brick" the M12 is at speed

You'll be very lucky to do that in 1.5miles!

At Bruntingthorpe, which is about 1.8miles I got the old M12 2.5 up to 169, but you'll easily need 3+ miles to get anywhere near the top speed.

As you probably noticed the rate up to 100 is very quick, then up to 120 it's quite fast, then up to 140 it's fast, and then the rate of progress slows down.

The M12, given it's shape, suffers from aero problems, and top speed has the frontal effective area as a large part of the equation. Consequently you'll need something slippery shaped like a 996 or Viper to get high speeds in such a short distance.

I have heard of a Noble being well over the 170 mark in France, but not something you really want to try if you value your car, license and Euros!

remember it's an M400, it got to an indicated 170 at a mile and that was it, no more revs, and just to prove it i did it another two times. all within i mph of each other. the only way a standard M400 will go quicker is if you threw it off of a cliff, Noble's claim is wildley exagerated....................unless they would like to prove different (not with the highly modified press car).

On the up side it did a 12.2 second quarter

Not quite sure what you are saying. I know from personal experience that the M400 keeps pulling after 170, it's just that it's about 1mph every second or so.

At 170mph you are covering ~70 meters per second, i.e. on a 1.5 mile course such as you were on you unless you had another 500 meters or so you aren't going to see anything significantly different.

The 2.5l adds another (speed trap verified) 9mph to your speed at Bruntingthorpe with 400-500 more meters which is bang on the mark, and I don't need some speed trap to tell me the M400 pulls harder than the 2.5l

It's simple maths - you really would need 3 miles plus to get anywhere near the correct speed if you are doing 160mph after 1.5 miles, even if you were adding 2mph per second.

Finally, Mickhanll has already said the top speed is an estimated (www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=80687&f=26&h=0
www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=86004&f=26&h=0)

If you worry about top speed as the measure of the greatness of a car, perhaps you should be driving a Ferrari (reference to the Ferrari owner who's alledgadly sueing Ferrari as he says the CS won't achieve it's top speed - www.pistonheads.co.uk/news/default.asp?storyId=11163)

Adrian,

Press car is standard.

185mph - in all our literature - was estimated at the time of the car's launch, and we admitted as much.

The car will crack 174mph at Bruntingthorpe. Fact.
