Just got home from 4 weeks in Blighty and have to say, "It's bloody nice to be home!" So you'll have me on here again, buisness as usual, from tomorrow (and no, I don't feel sorry for you! :D)

Martin.

Hey Martin...no wander I didn't see the green machine during my 3 week stint in sunny spain....I was looking out specially!

now I'm back to, but no new car to report --but I am shopping...I would be very grateful for suggestions for a proper family car (no people carriers please)...We seem to be adding a fourth kid to the brood so 7 seats required...only 2 I can think of that cut the mustard are XC90 and new Disco...any other ideas (and no...the wife has flat refused a Hummer!)

Q7 if you can wait.
Merc R-Class

Or, don't laugh, Vauxhall Zafira VXR... Goes like stink, 245bhp, 145mph.

Or get a normal estate (RS6....) and stick one of these in www.motorhoods.co.uk/

Oh - welcome back Martin.

I can now take off my second set of sunglasses incase I spotted Martin's new "lime green bling jacket" which I'm reliably informed he was mainly wearing in blighty

I've just spent three weeks around Mijas Pueblo, and I just wanted to know two things:-

Where do you drive the Noble, the roads are terrible?

and

How do you manage to keep it in one piece. I know UK driving isn't great but the Spanish are something else.

Great place though on the whole.

thanks for all the suggestions...not going down the extra seats in estate route (otherwise would stick with the XC70)...but the Q7 looks very interesting, if a little tight on timing of the launch...am also gonna consider the new Merc M class (assuming it is available with 7 seats)

agree with the comments on spanish roads...even getting onto a motorway slip road we had to "mount" a seeming 40 degree incline...can't say the car parks and sleeping policemen we encountered would have suited the noble either...not only that, but our villa owner goes through a set of tyres every 6 months...for school run mileage...eeek!

nice and hot...but still prefer the green green (and bloody tall by the time we got back) grass of home.

Audi will be expensive and plummit in value. The Merc might be a reasonable option albeit the new one. The old one was horrendous and the 6th and 7th seats folded up on the side.

XC90 is quite small in the back and doesn't have full size seats. There is also the Nissan Pathfinder but I'm told by a friend that the interior is the usual plastic fantastic.

OK I'm biased, but for the money you can't beat the Disco. Get it chipped and its quite quick too!!

Thanks Paul...the disco will certainly be getting a test drive...we had a good nose round one at the launch event and it looked a lot better than the last version...how has build quality and reliability stacked up?

(oh and apologies Martin, I appreciate I'm hogging your welcome back page....but hey, it makes you look even more popular than you already are )

I love my Renault Scenic for a family car, but if I didn't like MPVs I think the new Disco looks trick. My personal choice would be a 3 litre V6 Grand Espace with the auto box (preferably in florescent orange with some subtle pink and purple pinstripes, green flames and white walls )

Martin.

??? It's quote as being from £32k - that's way cheaper than an X5.

It's still not getting very good reviews, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have a look.

Thats what I got me!! (I got the crome mirrors too!) Does that make me a bad person??

All the seats fold flat and its got a whole 150bhp with a huge 4 gear auto box and posh diesel engine!!

(not reccomended as an only car!!)

Audi from £32K, without seats, engine and wheels and worth two balloons and a pointy stick within 6 months.

Sorry, love the A8, S8 and quite a few others but can't come to terms with near vertical depreciation (unlike my X5 which is worth so very near to what I paid for it.......not )

Disco TDV6 HSE with all the toys costs £44K, just don't own one out of warranty!! My wife's Disco is 9 months old, 8K and has had the air suspension fail which required three days at the dealership. Apart from that it's been fine so not too bad and we had a loaner the same day. I was quite impressed with the service to be honest.

Sorry....not on LR commission honest!

Tut could have lent me the Noble, Martin!!

We stayed in a stunning villa in an urbanisation called La Alqueria or something like that. Oddly I can remember the local Carob Bar perfectly.

Fantastic weather but I wonder if it might wear me down over a few months, but that's probably why you nip back to the UK to cool off! Anyway 6 kids, all boys under 5, and I need another month to recover.

I rented a Fiat Multipla with 10K K/M which had a bash on most panels. They do get a hammering. In fairness I added one or two more just driving around. Where on earth do you take the Noble or are you running on 26" rims
