Bad vibrations
Discussion
Took my 2.5 to the Westcountry over the weekend hoping for a good blast. Unfortunately, as I approached 70 mph I noticed a vibration through the wheel. It generally got worse the faster I went, becoming quite disturbing at 90+, so I drove at 60 everywhere. Strangely, it didn't seem quite as bad around 80mph. But, even stranger than that, the problem disappeared when the garage test drove it. Typical.
Any idea what this could be? If it were the tracking, I'd assume the problem would still be apparent.

Don't think its tracking as thats normally a vibration at a very specific speed. Get the front jacked up and see if theres any play when you move the wheels by hand (check balljoints, wishbones, wheelbolts etc). Could also turn the wheel and see if theres play in the steering rack. Also spin the wheels by hand when they are lifted and see if one has been dented/flattened (not a perfect test but better than nothing). Beyond that see if the balancing weights have fallen off the rim (I don't reckon its this but with that much vibration).
Good luck chap. Be careful driving it until you know what the problem is, it could be something important has come loose.
