Is there an easy way to tell if you have the track day sump fitted just by peering at it ?

I fancy a crack at Rockingham but I'm a bit nervous about the consequences if I don't have the necessary widget.

Call the factory, they seem to know which cars have one fitted, failing that check the service record and call the dealer who serviced it.

Cheers - I'll try the factory, I can't see anything in the service records which would indicate one way or another.

I thought there might have been a visual clue as it holds so much more oil

Apprently the track day sump has a "big" cutout of the undertray whereas the normal sump does not .... take a look underneath

What did you tell your insurers? My understanding is that they have to be told if there is a track day sump fitted.

Look under the car, tracksump will be almost flush with the undertray on the bottom of the car and will have a clearly visible weld line running all the way around it.

Best Regards

Does the insurance notification still apply if you have an M400 with the track day sump as standard??

I just told them I had a noble m12 gto 3r - if you don't know about something you can't dislcose it. If it is vitally important to them on a certain model then they should ask.

Thanks - everyone's advice is helpful in here as usual but I guess it is a comparative thing. If you have seen type (a) and know for definite what that was then identifying type (b) is easy.

The weld line is what I would call a definitive clue, thanks!

Here's a piccy of my engine before fitting. The large angular lump on the bottom is the track day sump. Can someone else post a photo of an engine without one?

Do you tell your insurers if you have a set of Noble floor matts too?

Your insurance cannot be made invalid due to something that "the average person in the street wouldn't be expected to know".

The IOB and FSA rulings on this have proved that time and time again.

I think this is only if you had the track-day sump fitted after the car was built.

As for insurance, you are asked if the car has any modifications which increase the performance or desirability of the car, such as aftermarket alloy wheels, and aftermarket exhausts.

Declaring a trackday sump would usually result in a, "We don't have a tick-box on our system for that, so just tell me how much it increases the power by and I'll put it down as an engine chip!"
