Last night half way through a 50 mile (traffic ridden) journey, i noticed the radiator fans had stopped cutting in. I stopped the car and 5 mins later restarted the engine and they worked fine again. On way to work this morning, same sort of distance into journey they stopped cutting in again. The water temperature gauge never exceeded the 110 mark (not sure how reliable the gauge is) This time however as the temperature got hotter, the idle speed increased to about 1200rpm, speedo went mental as did the tachometer and the car just seemed to lose power. As the temp' dropped the power restored It's a 2002 2.5 ltr had the ecu upgrade and the fan upgrade. Any ideas?

They are a bit inaccurate. Mine is about 5 degrees higher at the guage than it is in reality. But, still - 110 degrees? That's not good.

It might be worth replacing the temp sensor.
I had one go on mine

The fans come on whenever the aircon is working. This is a good way to check if they're getting power OK. (ie fuse isn't blown)

As yours is an intermittent thing it's more likely the sensor, or maybe a relay.

Anything over 100 is not good (I know from bitter experience).

Get it checked out ASAP, probably just a dicky temp sensor.

Possibly. If the temp sensor is "degrading" when it gets hot then it could stop working after a while.

Moley will be able to find out what the problem is - they had enough practice with my old 2.5l

I pressume you're talking about the radiators temperature? Just checking though what should be highest the oil temperature can go before I should get worried? Mine goes all the way up to 110(oil temp) here, it so friggin hot down here.

Yep - water should sit solid at 90 and not move.

Oil, well I've had it all the way around on the M400 (135ish), the sensor is on the 'return' path, so will get hotter when you use the engine. You really want one in the sump pickup to tell what temp is being passed into the bearings etc but Ford didn't stick one there.

If it gets above 130 then I normally do a cool down lap on track, it quickly comes down to 115-120 and then you have many more laps again.

Cools down the nut behind the wheel as well!

Have exactly the same problem and its the brass fan switch that seems to have a mind of its own. Cuts in sometimes and not others. New switch on order which will hopefully be fitted at Rockingham
