Does anyone know of a circuit (traditional or airfield) that can be hired for private driving and tuition for a day? I might add that this is not for me (although I'm sure I could do with the instruction), but for a friend who has a bit of cash to spend on cars and learning to drive them fast!

Thanks in advance,
Dom.

I'm sure every track is available for hire, for those with a large enough wallet.

Places like Llandow and the Teesside Autodrome are more likely candidates though.

Most tracks can, with sufficient green-backed persuasion-tokens.

Speak to Mike Flarry at Element 79 - he organises just that kind of event.

Llandow near Cardiff in South Wales, lovely little circuit.

www.donpalmer.co.uk ... Don Palmer will most likely use Bruntingthorpe, Leics.

www.carlimits.com ... Andrew Walsh will most likely use North Weald, Essex.

Both are very good instructors.

I think you can get the excellent Val Du Vienne for circa £8K -- fanastic countryside and roads surrounding it (been there on the bike a few times and the ride down is as much fun as the track) ....

Bruntingthorpe used to let you trun up and pay by the hour. It was sometimes interesting having several cars/drivers of differing ability on the same (admittedly vast) piece of tarmac.

On a related subject does any one know of a circuit/airfield nearer London that will allow you to turn up and drive?

Abbeville circuit, about 30 mins from Calais, has an excellent mix of fast and slow corners and loads of run off. I met the owner a while ago and if memory serves it isn't that expensive to hire.

www.stadium-automobile.com was their website but its down at the moment.

Only just saw this Dan, you're right of course, its been a while since I was there. And I only drove about 3 laps. Next to no run off there!

Never been there, but this picture from their website seems to show quite a large amount of run off on a few of the corners?

Mind you, there are a few there with bugger all plus armco, but even Bedford's got one of them...

The gravel traps seem right at up to the edge of the corners too, which again is less helpful than bedford. Still does look very safe and I think I was thinking of a different track in France now :?

My trackday insurance won't do Europe unfortunately.

From memory the armco is quite cose though on several of the corners. Those with grass are OK. A guy came off in his F1 car when we were there and there was no damage done.
