I thought I'd sidestep the "disappointing M400" thread, as my kettle is fine, thank you very much.

But I would be interested in seeing dyno curves on stock and near-stock M400s, not for exact numbers (as I know dynos vary), but for the shape of the curve. As soon as my engine completes break-in, I'd like to have more data on where to shift, etc.

Thanks,
Doug in Cincinnati (just over the pond in flyover land)

Doug,

If all else fails then Dyno Dynamics will be at the Noble Owners Club first trackday, so we should get some like for like plots there.

Fancy flying over?

Doug, on the owners day there is going to be a RR so I guess a few will be done then. I will be surprised if they make the quoted power, as usually that power is achieved in idea conditions. Looking forward to it.

Thanks, gents.

I won't be there for this round, but now that I know about all you trackday Brits, I'll look you up on my next visit.

Meantime, I'll be grateful to see the M400 charts.

Again, I don't care about the absolutes as much as the shape of the curves. (a wink is as good as a nudge...)

cheers,
Doug in Cincinnati

Doug... here is one item from Simon on shift point.

BCA,

When I said that the drivetrain is given a hard time, I didn't mean to the extent that you lunch the gearbox in the process.

In a 3R, 3400rpm and a smartish let-up of the clutch suffices. In the M400, because of it's softer, grippier rubber and optimum torque produced higher in the rev-range, you need to use around 4200rpm.

Side-stepping clutches is a sure-fire way of breaking something, and is slower anyway.

Since the M400 produces max power at 6500rpm, it's pointless running to the 7300 limiter, because your acceleration will suffer: 7200 in first and second, then 7000 in third and fourth is best.

If you get it right, the drivetrain and clutch should not get too much of a pounding. What tends to get abuse are the gear selectors if you're chasing a really quick time...
