Would that be a Renault 5 Turbo 2?

I might just bring the M400 along (if the wife agrees), as have wanted to see one on track for a long time.

Elvington is fantastic, BUT you will wreck a set of tyres, and get stone chips. It's so tempting to book now........

I've just read your previous thread, and it obviously is. I'm up for a treck to Elvington at least to watch next Saturday. Only if you take the Turbo 2 though, and not the Noble. I keep thinking about buying one, and have never actually been out in one. Would be good to speak to someone who actually owns one.

Only concern is that when I get there, I WILL want to take the M400 out.

Hi Adrian,
Not worried about stonechips, it's definitely a motorsport car

Definitely using turbo 2 as it's a shakedown session following some recent development work. Took it in december but a) it was 110db so had to strap on silencers and b)it ruptured a fuel pipe the following day, directly over the engine.......boom!

So totally rebuilt with EFI & an Omex ECU, plus new twin exhaust, still a fire breather but now 98db for sprint season

You will of course want to use the M400, but then again if it snows.......bring helmet with you, happy to take out passengers

I'm pretty sure that I'll come along.

Snow at Elvington is fantastic. Did a BAT day there in my old company Clio 172. Front wheel drive, and sideways all over the place.

Didn't think noise would be a problem. I did a Javelin day there, in tarmac spec Grp N Escort Cossie, with the Anti-Lag on, and no-one bothered. No one dared go too close tho' as it was spitting 3ft flames out(well I don't think anyone could keep up actually).

Would love to see a turbo 2, as only ever seen them on display, or road cars that I've thought about buying. Read up on them a fair bit, and spoke to Peter Meaney who wrote the book on them. John Price has a freshly built one for sale, but it's £25k+. The wife has said that she'll divorce me if I even think about buying one, or a 6R4 come to that. I know where there is a tatty blue one for about £8k, but it's been in storage for a while, and looks like it needs a complete restoaration.

I might stick the Westie on a trailer and bring that over for a bit of track day fun.......

Adrian (off to think about booking a place for sat)

Adrian,

Just clicked on your name, realised we've met, didn't you have an Evo 6 with your wifes name on the plate?

We did a few BAT days and you took my wife out for a spin, I was either in my silver 6, black 5, blue westfield or 928S4, can't remember!!

Didn't you start building a dax or something??

JPR car is pricey but no doubt well sorted, ours is currently mapped at a very safe 200bhp, due to a rather tired clutch, but there is a shiny new AP one on the shelf in the garage

Yep, silver EVO6 with K333ELY on it. Used to do a lot of days at Elvington, as it is good fun, without much chance of crashing.

Bloody good memory. Sold it to build a bike engined Westfield (which is still in the garage). Then bought an ex M-sport GrpN Recce Escort Cossie, which went to make way for the M400 last year.

Wife has cleared coming on Saturday, but don't think I'll be taking the Noble on track. too many potential stone chips for the Noble's very "soft" paint.

See you mid morning.

Can you post some pics of the turbo 2. Not sure what you mean!

I am thinking the 911 turbo 2 from the movie "Badboys" (will smiths car?)

Did I just make an arse of myself there?

It's not just "any" Renault 5. Think old world version of a V6 Clio. Or rather V6 Clio is a modern lardy version of a Turbo 2. Jean Ragnotti won the 1981 Monte Carlo rally in one (well that was a turbo "1" actually, with the lighter ali roof, but I'm being an anorak now).

It was pretty much THE fore runner to Grp B cars, and is actually classed as a group B car, although the latter 4 wheel drives would now eat it for breakfast. Still it had upwards of 200 BHP, mid engined, rear wheel drive and weighed fook all. The final Maxi turbo was getting 350+ BHP from a bored out 1.5l engine.

The wife hates them, and I want one.......

Look here for more info www.johnpricerallying.co.uk/renault%20turbos.htm (i've no idea how to hyperlink stuff)

LOL, you asked so now you have to see!

Not sold Noble (yet) Turbo 2 is very much my motorsport car and there to be fully abused

Of course being a renault 5 we have a few of these

the engine bay is normally covered with this but we are going to have a clear firewall put in, like the 6R4 has

and it will end up similar to this

Built to run at circa 300bhp but needs the AP clutch.
