It could be swings and roundabouts though, it may increase the cool air flow around the engine and IC but could also increase drag around the backend of the car. Looking at the picture it looks fine but one thing you need to consider when doing this sort of mod is the air flow isn't disrupted too much and also that it has got somewhere to go!
I may be wrong, but things like this need to stick out a fair bit. There is a boundary layer of slow moving air for a couple of inches all round the car. Small ducts will simply just sit there, with no air flowing through them. Not saying it wouldn't work, but might have to stick out further than looks nice to actually work. only way to test is to mock it up and see what happens or use a wind tunnel.
From what I read there is no air going through the intercooler, could someone please explain why having air ducted directly to the intercooler directly will not work?
This design apparantly does the same as Pauls over the roof mod does, but doesn't interfere with the rear view.
Just wondering what the difference is.

I did some testing with air temperature probs and at any speed above 25mph the air flowing through the intercooler was consistently 5-8 degrees c hotter than the air entering the vent holes next to the rear quater lights - as soon as the car slowed to less than 10 mph though the air temperature inside these vent holes rose dramatically. I don't beleive sticking fans everywhere is the be all and end all....

Doc, last friday I ran some tests of the intercoolers on the dyno. First pull with the stock intercooler 347whp. I let the car cool down a little, clamshell open and all. Second run, the core was heat soaked already and there was a major drop in power. 301whp. After that, the Bell core was installed. THere was maybe a 30min period between the install and first pull with the upgraded core. 358whp. We ran another 3 pulls before power dropped to 298whp. Checked the IC and it was very hot.
The upgraded larger core has fins which are lined about 1/3 closer together than the stock one. The tube design and the louvered fins add to a small pressure drop but because the air is in the cooler a tad longer it has more time to cool. This is only possible if the fins were being cooled also....thus the need for fans. There simply is enough air flowing through the intercooler without fans to help with the heatsoak issue. Add, fans, heat shielding and you should be ok regardless of which intercooler you use. Also, remember these dyno runs were done with NO fans on the intercooler (either one).

It will work, but the intakes would need to be the size of Jet engines.
From some experiments, Paul found that in order for something like a roof duct to work, it would need to protude above the roof by quite a bit. Not very aesthetic to say the least !
The more efficient intercooler with fan solution works a treat tho.
