CAD software

Dear All,
Sorry to be of topic but I need some CAD software. Someone here must have experience of it. What's the best / easiest to get going for an IT literate amateur?

Any help on or off line most gratefully appreciated.

If its machanical, the latest version of Autocad, i think you can even buy it at pc world

If it's automotive then Catia or UG but they're a tad expensive, so failing that Autocad!

Dear All,
Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to design general solid shapes and small items, NACA ducts etc. Not engines or gearboxes. Simple 3D stuff with curves and profiles.

I've got Turbocad and to say its not that intuitive would be an understatement, even after reading the manual.

Last time I used autocad it wasn't exactly intuitive either...

Paul,

I have copies AutoCAD and ProE (Nug Nug Wink Wink).

I use Auto CAD nearly ever Day and linke all 2D packages its easy to use. Pro E needs training but is an excellent 3D package.

I suggest checking out a few different CAD software programs first, to see which on you like best and suits your needs. Many of the CAD vendors offer free and trial downloads, to give you sufficient time to check the program out. There is an extensive list of free computer drawing software programs that you can review. Autodesk, the maker of AutoCAD, offers 30 day trial downloads of many of their products. Sketchup is also a very good and easy to use CAD program as well. Hope this was helpful.
