Hi, is there an easy way of checking if the g/box in my M12 2.5 has been upgraded with an LSD. Cheers Tim

Boot it out of a corner. If the inside wheel spins up you haven't got a LSD

Otherwise, there is generally "LSD" written on the gearbox in marker pen.

Jack the car up at the rear

turn one of the wheels

if the other wheel turns with it then it has a LSD

or jack one wheel and turn it - the wheel will only turn if there is no LSD

Is the Quaiffe 100% locking then?

Method 176b:- 7000rpm and dump the clutch. If you get a number 11 it's got an LSD...if you get a number 1 it hasn't. If you get a loud bang and a horrible scrunching/grinding noise you have no diff left at all but you'll know what it will be coz you'll have to tell the factory which one to fit. HTH

I've got a Quaife ATB in another one of my cars and thats what it does when you turn the wheels

the way it works is to gradually spread the power over the wheels as they have grip

when you loose traction it cuts power to both wheels till they stop spinning and then gradually applies it again

or normal viscous or plated diff transfers power to the wheel that is not spinning
this may give you ulitmate traction - but can make the car very difficult to control and quite loose at the rear end

A car without a lsd will spin one wheel and you will end up going nowhere

The Quaiffe is a torque biasing diff, it transfers torque to the wheel most able to take it, the wheel with most resistance to turning, to my knowledge it cannot lock 100%. It does not cut power to both wheels ever?
