Tyres - when to replace

My fronts have completed 20,000 miles and my rears over 10,000. However, I am noticing a loss of grip and twitching during cornering which I can only attribute to worn tyres.

What does everybody else use an indicator for when to replace?

Also, what to do with the old ones if they still have reasonable tread but perhaps have uneven wear. I thought about using them for track days but then again I thought that optimum grip would be achieved with a fresh set.

I tend to wait till they have hit the wear indicators, then do about another 2000 miles and 3 trackdays. Then get a new set.

Mine are almost slicks and are still on the car.

Before they get to the wear indicators on the tyres or if the rubber is over three years old.

You've obviously not seen me on a track day !

The factory are quoting for Pirelli Corsa's instead of Bridgestones. Apparently down to the tyre no longer being made.

I'm sure this has been debated, at length, before but I'm wondering if it is a sensible approach to go for the corsas.

Bridgestone do an alternative to the SO3, depends what you want really The Corsa will cost you more, do less miles, not so good in the wet but lots better on track.

How about the Pirelli Corsa System tyre rather than the motorsport. Same compound I think but better roadability. Cheaper too I think.

Thats the current black circles price for mail order. Not sure if p&p is inc?

I can't recall it being the 050 bridgstone.

I wonder if anyone has found an alternative thats better than the so3 on track but as good on the road and in the wet?

Any helpers?

I really rate the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 as a road tyre that is ok on track but obviously haven't tested them on a Noble...

It was the Perelli PZero rosso that I was thinking of. Supposed to be a good track/road tyre.

Similar sort of tyre to Yoko AO48. I know they work well on Lotus Elises, but might be a bit too soft and have too much sidewall flex for Nobles.

Would be interested if anyone has fitted them too.

I have a set of A048's in my garage. (hoping they didn't get stolen too last night!!)

A good few folks here have used them and they say they are great on track but a little iffy in the wet.

Thats why I have not put them on just yet.

I am wondering if I should don them now and go to Le mans on them of if I should get another set of SO3's first for le mans then swop of a few TD's afterwards.

Just spoke with Blackcircles this morning. The Bridgestone potenza s-03 is out of production and they don't know if or when Bridgestone may make any more.

I'm going to speak to a dealer to see what arrangements they can make.

However, I know that we can order the Pirelli Corsas but from what I've read I need to upgrade to Nitron shocks. This seems a bit extreme just to put 4 tyres on ! However, I do understand there is a clear benefit of running on alternative shocks.
