Aftermarket brake pads?

200 miles later, and two brand new shiny disks.

If you are looking for a good aftermarket pad the Ferodo DS2500 are an excellent comprimise for fast road use given then they are race pads. Although for some reason i seem to remember hearing that Ferodo where standard on the Nobles anyway?

Yes, that is what happened hence the new disks. After only 200 miles.

That'll be Plans Motorsport.

My understanding is:-

DS2500 - for road and track
DS3000 - track
Pagid ??? are also being recommended.

I'm about to try the DS2500 pads.
Oh and it's recommended to use the same pad compounds on front and rear.

Its Plans Motorsport, www.plansmotorsport.com they did the research and have sourced these grooved disks which are a direct replacement and are a noticeable improvement on the factory discs no matter what pads you are using. They are a different metal and not being drilled will not suffer from cracking around the holes that all drilled discs will eventually suffer. If you need to replace your discs I'd recomend doing this upgrade. They cost a bit more but should last longer to make up for it.

For mixed road & track I'd recomend the DS2500 pads.
For mainly track work or for enthusiasts who don't mind less than perfect road manners the DS3000 are better.
For mainly race work apparently the Pagid pads and grooved discs are the combo to beat. The Pagids are NOT to be used on the road. Anything less than full on use and the pads glaze over so they are designed for non stop flat out driving - i.e. not road use.

Richard - I thought the M400 came with DS2500 as standard? They are the trackday pads the factory fit to normal M12s if requested so I figured the track biased car whould have them from the off?

Paul - Which Pagid compound are you talking about as there are loads, the CSL and GT3 guys including Dan and myself use RS19 or RS29 endurance racing pads (Pagid yellows) and they are fine on the road if you don't mind a bit of noise every now and then

The DS2500 are not fitted as standard - certainly not on my M400.
I'm also having the Plans-sourced AP grooved disks fitted (on the fronts only).

Graham at Plans mentioned "RS15" to me in the past.

Used to use these on my Elise and they were fine on road and brilliant on track. Needed warming up and squeeled a bit, but otherwise great.
