Hi im from the porsche forum mainly but have a fault with a 53 reg noble m12 where the temp gauge will go off the scale all of a sudden but seems very electrical as it is flickering between 100 and 130 quickly....
also car runs flat at this point..think its the sender for engine temp to the gauge and ecu as this would cause car to run lean if its showing 130 degrees ..?

Also noticed that the pipe work and thermostat is about 94 degrees when measures with teperature gun..

any advice appreciated

14000 miles..

If it is going off the scale suddenly when the fans kick in then it maybe the fan switch. When plans was sorting my car out they noticed this and changed the switch. Could also be bad earthing on the switch.

The sysmptoms of the engine running flat and the temp gauge flicking up to 130C are signs that the engine is running in failsafe mode through water temperature. Whether real or simply a faulty sender, the ECU is reading high engine temperatures and reducing power to prevent damage. So a check of the sensor and of the cooling system in general would be good.

Under what conditions was it doing this?
