Running Temperature??

Hi guys,

First time i've been for a long run (portsmouth to Leicester) in this hot weather. At a constant 85-90 what sort of temp do you guys run at??

My car was running at 90 when I got it (weather cold), but three odd months ago the engine had to come out fot a replacement diff. I then got it back and it was running hot so I gave it back to Plans. They say that they had to bleed the system over and over again until it was running better. On my drive up yesterday it sat at 98oC just before the fan kicks in (85-90mph, if I slowed the temp slowly dropped). It never went over 100oC but I think I need to contact them again.

Doesn't sound right - sounds like they need to look at it again! After they try everything obvious, if it still persists don't forget to have them check the radiator core (remember that batch of faulty early one's causing the infamous 2003 Summer-of-Overheating!).

looking back at the bills my rad was replaced ages ago around 02. the car is 01.

I'm not too concerned at this time as when I sit in traffic in the blazing heat the car will not go above 100 the fans keep it under control. My concern is if I do a track day the constant pressure may take the car above 100, no more than 105 i could live with. Interestingly the manual says the car should run between 80-110!.

I have seen 120 on track days and no issues.

Are we we all talking about water temperature or oil temperature?

My water temperature stays firmly at 85-90c even after a hard track day session on a hot day so I would be worried to see it rise well above 100c! Now oil temp is a different matter. When the car gets hot that'll go upwards of 130-140 if your working the car hard.

I've just got back to Portsmouth from leicester and even if I sat at a ton for a while it didn't go over 100. Even when I was playing with a bike (I think he has to now get a bigger bike) it never went over 100. I may call plans back up just to see what they say.

Like kinetic, mine stays between 85-90.
My previous 2.5l used to hit around 95 tho.

We raised my oil cooler 1" to get more of the grill into the airflow at the weekend. After that I was seeing water 90' and oil 115'c max on the back straight. Never runs hotter. Oil is good for 140 max so if you are into 120 territory you need to be carefull.

At the end of one of the races my 11 year old daughter said "daddy, the whole of the car is like a radiator, its just beaming out heat".

My oil temp hit 160 in my M400 at the Silverstone test on the Friday
but water temp was still at 90c.

EEEK indeed. That's beyond its operating tolerance. There is a bit of an issue in that some sumps have the turbo oil feed return pointing directly at the temp sensor so whats being measured is the hottest oil but even so that's too hot Steve.

Get your oil cooler up front.
