Not a nice noise on start up....
Discussion
OK, when i start in the mornings, and occassionally later in the day, got a not-loud-but-not-faint knocking from the engine. Once it's been running 10-20 seconds, it's gone.
Not bottom end type of knock, and sounds lower than top end....
Never heard it whilst driving..
Question.. Are the timing chain tensioners hydraulic???

Sure it isn't the exhaust blowing? Does it sound like a 'tippytitapping' noise? Before you get all doom and gloom once the turbo gasket and/or manifold crack you get a tapping noise that as things heat up can go away due to the metal expanding slightly and closing the gap.
I'd get it to a service centre so they can check it out.

Took car to factory yesterday. Confirmed hydraulic timing chain tensioners have had it. Apparantly it is not uncommon for the ratchet teeth to go missing on the tensioners causing them to have to pump right up from cold.
Not cheap to do, but to quote the engineer "at least the engine doesn't have to come out!". Lucky me!!!!
Anyway, at least it will all be done in time for Megahoon :-)

lets hope its not the same as Owen's tensioners; i.e. the big ends. My crank made a light tinkling tappy sound from 2-2.500 rpm when it went. Continuous though, not start up.
