After selling a 360 bhp Evo I was a bit dissapointed in the performance of the Noble so I've bought an Apexi AVCR I'm waiting for my mechanic to put it on and set it up. I was hoping to take the boost up to about 1 bar or as far as it will go without detting. My car already has a trackday sump, uprated ECU from Noble and dump valves.
I'm going to do it anyway but I want to know if anyone else has done this before?

A few people did play like this in the early days. Gearbox will break as will CV joints etc. Values aren't really that strong either so that can be an issue. Can't remember if that boost controller has a knock sensor (the Noble doesn't).
Whilst I'm all for getting most out of Nobles, I never really though bypassing the ECU's clever map, developed over 1000's of man hours rolling road and bench testing was a good idea.
The EVO engines (I had an EVO 6, great car) were designed for Rallying remember, at about 400BHP but massive touque figures (500+ft/lbs). They had lots of headroom as standard. Nobles don't.

The reason I have opted for electronic boost control rather than a proper remap is so it can be turned on and off. Although 1000's of man hours may have been put in on creating the standard map it only boosts at 0.7 bar - the same as Ford Cosworths in standard form. Most people manage to do boost upgrades on them to 1 bar without problems. As far as I am aware most standard form turbocharged vehicles boost to around 0.7 bar whilst they are built to hold at least 1 bar on the standard head gasket and internals. Please correct me if I am wrong here

You're right, you can get the boxes quite cheap, but it's an engine out job to change it, and that's where the costs rocket. The 5 speed box is at it's limit with the standard 320ft/lbs of touque is seems. There have been numerous failures, some without turning up the wick at all.
I can see where you're coming from with the Cosworth angle, but that was turbocharged from the off, and again Ford put in quite a bit of headroom for group A touring cars etc. I'm betting you'll probably get away with 1 bar, but the fuel pump isn't really up to much so I'd swap that out unless you want to run lean, and melt everything. The values can start loosing their seal around that area too.
Sounds like you're going at it the right way though with a RR involved. Remember to post the RR plots when it's done!

The overboost upgrade maintained a very low torque curve to preserve the gearbox and drivetrain, whilst increasing the bhp to 340. If you just increase the boost across the range expect something to break.
For you information, this is a dyno plot on a 2.5l that didn't break anything.

Cheers for the advice. I thought that this would be the case gearboxes etc that is why I chose the AVCR as it can be programmed with different boost settings for each gear ratio. I'm hoping to keep standard boost in 1st & 2nd then increase to 1 bar from 3rd - or do you think it will still break ?
