Rust

What does eveyone do about the rust on the Chassis? I had the back end of my car replaced by the factory when it was just under a year old because the rust was so bad - It's now 4 years old and has lived in a garage all it's life and the rust in the engine bay is rife - don't get me wrong stucturly it will be fine - it just looks awful - I was thinking of stripping it back and painting it all with high temperature engine paint - any well done anything similar?

I did exactly that on a few bits while the engine was out

I think after a certain date, they all got powder coated or something. No rust problems on my £R (R118)

The paint melts off as the engine bay temps are so high, and then rusts. My car has had the chassis all aroud the engine wrapped with heat resistant foil made by a company calley DEI. The exhausts are also Heat wrapped which must also make a difference. There's no rust on mine anyway!!

from what i'm led to believe some of the early chassis's got left out in the rain in south africa and were not treated properly before painting

you could probably treat the chassis with underseal or waxoil or something similar - maybe paint it with hammerite when you have treated it ?

Bet you do - all those Fiat problems with rust could have been cured by going to a forum frequented (that means visited by) people who admire results over image

Reading the first line I thought this was the TVR section for a while

I've just organised some spray on zinc which I shall be using on the chassis of my TVR near the manifolds. According to the datasheet its operating range is -50 deg c to plus 550 deg c, which must be better than the flakey powder coat used by the manufacturer. Saying that I've seen cars that are fine, they obviously drive too slowly
