best video settings or codec

Dear All,
I've got 30 mins of the endurance race on video but the settings I'm using on the video creator end up in monumental file sizes. Can anyone advise on what the optimum settings are or is there some special encoder I could get hold of?

I use Windows Movie Maker and save the movie as a '.wmv' file at 520kbps. This seems to stream over broadband okay and the quality seems fine.
